I don't think the similarity matters too much; if it was siblings that would be different, but I think it's fine for cousins.

Would you consider Elias? Similar to Ellis but more different from Ellie if it does bother you...

Cosmoa · 09/05/2018 11:19

My sister is called Ellis.. She doesn't really ever get called Ellie either..

They are obviously very similar though.. I like the suggestion of Elias above! Or Eli? Or Elijah?

chezmk1988 · 09/05/2018 11:32

Quite similar but you're not living with two children called those names so it's not much of an issue but other suggestions from me are

Elliott
Elijah
Elias

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 09/05/2018 11:43

Elias, as suggested above.

RoundaboutSnail · 09/05/2018 14:02

It's fine IMO.

Agree with pp that the similarity doesn't matter too much for cousins. Especially if you love the name Ellis, I would say go for it. However, I do like the suggestion of Elias. It's not as similar in sound to Ellie and is such a gorgeous name. :)

TatianaLarina · 09/05/2018 16:32

Yes I think it’s too similar. There’s only one letter difference between the two.

manicinsomniac · 09/05/2018 22:35

I don't think it's a problem to use Ellis. I second the suggestion of Elliot though.

RosieCotton · 09/05/2018 22:59

I love Ellis. Its beautiful.

I wouldn't say it was to similar. My DD has a cousin with and identical name (my DD is 9, her cousin 5)

I have a few cousins all with the same name. Also DD2 has the same name as my cousin (who's 28years older than her) theres never been an issue in our family. In all honesty I didn't even think it would cause as issue.

I'm not keen on Elias.

Sharonthetotallyinsane · 09/05/2018 23:03

It’s fine.

MikeUniformMike · 09/05/2018 23:07

It's fine. They're cousins. Just be aware that he might get nicknamed Elly or Elsy.

cocktailhour · 09/05/2018 23:16

My cousin and I (less than a year apart) have exactly the same name and that worked out ok. So, on the basis of one family (not much of a scientific sample, eh? Smile) I'd say go for Ellis - it's a great name!

Mrsknackered · 10/05/2018 00:01

I’m not a massive fan of Ellis...

Perhaps Ethan, Dylan or Elijah fit the bill?

RainbowsAndUnicorns23 · 11/05/2018 14:25

Thank you for the replies and suggestions.. will see what OH thinks.

I see this particular cousin fairly often as DS1 and her are the same age.
