Beautiful. I like it

lottiegarbanzo · 09/05/2018 10:27

Lovely

Cosmoa · 09/05/2018 10:30

Love it and my partner wanted us to consider it for our girl that is due in a few weeks!

However has become and is still becoming very popular which put me off..

Sophronia · 09/05/2018 12:15

It’s ok. I prefer the Maia spelling though.

sonnyboo · 09/05/2018 12:15

Very popular along with Mia, but otherwise pretty

Alienspaceship · 09/05/2018 12:20

Depends on the pronunciation.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 09/05/2018 12:21

Watch out, it’s really prevalent in some areas (I know several in my area of SW London and bizarrely my NI friends have a few Maya’s) so if you’re looking for uniqueness...

MollyHuaCha · 09/05/2018 18:43

I like Maya, but only where the first part rhymes with the word eye.

daisypond · 09/05/2018 18:45

How are you going to pronounce it? My-a or May-a. I know people with both pronunciations.

oldbirdy · 09/05/2018 18:46

It's a nice name but every girl in my 16 year old's class was called Maya, Mia, or Maia. In my 7 year old's class everyone is called Ava, Eva or Aoife . Weird how names have a Zeitgeist.
There are always a few Maya/ Mias now, but not as many as the 2001 birth year glut in my home town.

MikeUniformMike · 09/05/2018 22:23

I don't like it. Mia is better.

Sharonthetotallyinsane · 09/05/2018 22:25

Is it May-a or Mai-a? I’m seem to hear those names a lot.

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 09/05/2018 22:28

I wouldnt use it because people often confuse how to pronounce it

MikeUniformMike · 09/05/2018 23:04

My first thought at the thread title was Mayonnaise. Avoid if your surname is Naseby or Naismith ...

MikeUniformMike · 09/05/2018 23:05

Maya nee Smith?

EllenJanethickerknickers · 09/05/2018 23:08

I'd pronounce Maya as May ah, Maia as My ah and Mia as Me ah. I think that's fairly standard. All pretty names.

Buntysoven · 09/05/2018 23:15

One of our dogs is Maya pn May-a. Obvs I think it's lovely...as is she!

Maya?
RaininSummer · 09/05/2018 23:22

It's pretty but amongst my students currently I have a Mia, a Maia and a Maya. So confusing.

Mrsknackered · 09/05/2018 23:59

It’s pretty but because of that it’s very popular.

I know a Maya who is may-uh, two Maya’s that are my-uh, a Myah, Maia and Mya all pronounced My-uh and then a couple of Mia’s. I also know two baby Amaya’s (a-my-uh) and a grown up Amaya which is A-may-uh.

I really love Mia though.

What about Milena?

Mumteedum · 10/05/2018 00:07

It's the name of the software I use so no from me! Realise bit obscure though girl in Ds class has name too and I always mispronounce it. Twenty years of saying it the other way. Tricky. Anyway Ds says they're getting married so I must try harder Ds is 6

RedDwarves · 10/05/2018 02:09

It's alright. I prefer the spelling Maia and think that this would lend itself to the "My-uh" pronunciation more than Maya.

I like Mia more, though.

Merry0409 · 10/05/2018 02:44

My youngest daughter is maia, and I don't know any others of her age group, so maybe not that popular .

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 10/05/2018 03:08

It’s lovely.

orchiddaisy · 10/05/2018 05:55

I really like it- it's on my list !

ElizaDontlittle · 10/05/2018 08:28

I like it - there's the pronunciation issue amongst those you don't know but those you do will only need telling once. I've just looked on the ONS and Mia is much more popular and stable, Maya is still rising, as like a PP I did think the peak had passed.
