I love Douglas, DH hates it. Suggest some alternatives for me?

Just that really. DS1 due in September. I love the name Douglas (not least because it was my grandfather’s name) but DH hates it. He likes James, which is fine, but quite common now. Does anyone have any similar alternative suggestions? Or any way to persuade DH to come round to my point of view?!

I'm not much help, I've got a James Douglas. I actually wish I'd not used Douglas as a middle name for DS2 because then I couldn't use it for DS3!
I also like, but didn't use:
Magnus
Roderick/Roddy
Duncan.
I tend to like the kind of names found on Scottish war memorials, at least that's what DH has accused me of.

A friend's son is called Douglas. The grandparents were a bit Hmm at first but it's perfect. Everyone calls him Dougie or Doug and it really suits him. He's about 4 now and I couldn't imagine him being called anything else.

Douglas is great! But if you can't persuade your DH, how about Ross, Iain or Murray?

I like it! I have a Hamish (which is James really so your DH might like it, but the Scottish version) and like Duncan too.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/05/2018 21:46

Awww that's a shame Douglas nn Dougie is a fab name. Classy but adorable.
Other ideas.
Vincent. Trevor. Maurice. Lawrence. Augustus. Thomas.

GruffaloPants · 07/05/2018 21:55

I would suggest Donald but it has negative connotations right now....

How about Andrew, Fraser, Cameron, Kerr, Alexander, Iain, Peter, David?

sonnyboo · 07/05/2018 22:46

Douglas is a great name and much more interesting than James imo.

Thanks all, some of these are so lovely. I love Patrick and Angus - DH still to be persuaded though. Hamish is also really cool. Also a man called Peter helped me lift a suitcase onto the tube the other day and I (jokingly) promised to give his name to my first born. But actually, it is a really lovely name.
