Hi everyone! This is my first post. I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant with a baby girl.
We will use the middle name May as it's a combo of both nanas names. But we can't decide on Sophia or Ella for the first name. People told me to wait until she is born to see what she looks like but I think she'll grow into whatever name we give her and suit it regardless and I know I will be torn on the name when she's born anyway. Please let me know what you prefer! Last name is Tommsen. Thank you!

Sophia for sure! Such a gorgeous name.

Aylarose · 06/05/2018 01:17

I prefer Sophia May too.

bionicnemonic · 06/05/2018 01:25

Are you pronouncing it So-fear or So-fire? either way I prefer it

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 06/05/2018 01:28

Sophia.

Ella/ie May seems to be the name of a vast number of girls aged 10-4 right now.

PandaCat · 06/05/2018 08:33

Sophia is way better.

pilates · 06/05/2018 08:40

Definitely Sophia

Socrates73 · 06/05/2018 08:50

I love Sophia too, Ella is nice enough but bland and over used (where I live anyway)

bionicnemonic · 06/05/2018 10:35

The reason I asked about the pronounciation was due to this song
www.google.co.uk/search?client=safari&hl=en-gb&ei=nsvuWv3JKIXegAbRrLi4BA&q=lord+bateman+chris+wood&oq=lord+bateman+chris+wood&gs_l=mobile-gws-wiz-serp.3..0i30l3.4721.5702..6866...0....106.512.6j1......0....1.........0i13i30.8dmsP7irkZw%3D#mie=e,,lord%20bateman%20chris%20wood,H4sIAAAAAAAAAONgVuLVT9c3NEwyyy0uNDCIf8TozS3w8sc9YSmnSWtOXmO04eIKzsgvd80rySypFNLjYoOyVLgEpVB1ajBI8XOhCvEAAL9VhqlfAAAA

That link is broken...Lord Bateman by Chris Wood on YouTube if you fancy a listen

mealz001 · 06/05/2018 10:38

Thank you! We would pronounce it So-Fi-a (so like Sophie but with an A on the end) if that makes sense.

Thanks everyone for the messages. We aren't from the US, I'm not sure if that makes the popularity any different but I haven't met any babies/toddlers with those names in the city where I'm from!! I asked another group and they all said Ella, so this post has thrown a spanner in the works hehe. I guess we will decide in due time!

If anyone has another option for a name im open!

Sophia

--My DS goes to school with an Ella and she is a brat

Sorry no offence to any non bratty Ella’s--

PetraRabbit · 06/05/2018 11:12

Theres quite a high chance there'd be another Sophia May or Ella May in her class at school in the UK. You're choosing a very very popular middle name (May Grace or Rose are the middle names of almost every baby I know born recently). On that basis, personally I'd go outside the top 50 for a first name. But like someone else said, the names are popular for a reason.

daisypond · 06/05/2018 14:36

So-fy-a is the traditional English pronunciation. So-fee-a is the more Continental pronunciation. I'd always assume So-fy-a first if you're in the UK, but I'm sure So-fee-is quite common as well.

Pinkprincess1978 · 06/05/2018 15:56

Sophia is less common so gets my vote. Both are pretty though and go with both middle and last name

felicitythemangyfox · 06/05/2018 17:13

Sophia

FairyFantastic · 06/05/2018 18:23

Sophia May

mealz001 · 06/05/2018 19:29

I'm not in the UK either, we are down under and haven't come across many Sophia's or ellas at all! But who knows , I'm sure they will pop up when she's at school etc. we also like grace and Georgia, and Kate. All quite standard common names I suppose.

Sophia

TenThousandSpoons · 06/05/2018 19:34

Another vote for Sophia. I’ve never heard of Sophia being pronounced So-fy-a, always So-fee-a. The only thing is the initials SMT mean Senior Mamagement Team to me but maybe just the job I was in Grin

gwen25 · 09/05/2018 09:40

Definitely Sophia.
