Thoughts on Bastian for a boy? Not short for Sebastian just Bastian

OP posts:

Unless it has some significance or is a well known name in another country that you are from then no
In fact even if that is the case then no anyway

Nanasueathome · 05/05/2018 07:16

It’s a no from me
I like Sebastian shortened to Seb but not Bastian

Ohyesiam · 05/05/2018 07:16

I met a Bostian once in Slovenia, thought it sounded a bit like a product name.

LostMyLunchMoney · 05/05/2018 07:19

I don't like it.
It makes me think of Camp Bastion - the former British military base in Helmland province in Afghanistan.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 05/05/2018 07:20

Only if you give him the middle names "Balthazar Bucks".

BabyMoonPie · 05/05/2018 07:21

I really like it and have always thought it was a great name whenever I watches Bastian Schweinsteiger

BabyMoonPie · 05/05/2018 07:22

Watched not watches

peachypetite · 05/05/2018 07:30

Lol

TheVanguardSix · 05/05/2018 07:31

Good grief, OP.

Swissgemma · 05/05/2018 07:32

Really popular in Switzerland

Harebellmeadow · 05/05/2018 07:32

Only as a nn of Sebastian.

lifechangesforever · 05/05/2018 07:32

Kids will just change it to a popular swear word..

Doyoumind · 05/05/2018 07:34

There's a French name Bastien which is quite nice said the French way, but Bastian is a no from me.

sonnyboo · 05/05/2018 07:43

Way too close to Bastard!

Doesn't work in English for that reason.

mpsw · 05/05/2018 07:48

Well, if you're in UK, then Camp Bastion is a very familiar name to a whole generation of the military, their families and those who kept up with the news generally from 2005-2015.

I wouldn't choose it for that reason until a bit more time had passed.

Unless of course you are honouring someone who died in Afghanistan. In which case, go for it with head held high. Because I think it works as a name, and would bring remembrance

PotteringAlong · 05/05/2018 07:49

You can’t call your child bastard. And that’s what will happen.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 05/05/2018 07:50

Quite normal name here in South Germany and gets shortened to Basti. But you know how that might go down in the playground!

greendale17 · 05/05/2018 07:51

Too brash and harsh sounding

KirstenRaymonde · 05/05/2018 07:55

My DDad served at Camp Bastian, just makes me think of war

madeyemoodysmum · 05/05/2018 07:55

No. Go for Sebastian instead and shorten if you have to but give the kid a chance in school !

Snowysky20009 · 05/05/2018 08:18

Makes me think of Bastard too. So definitely a no!!!

RavenWings · 05/05/2018 08:19

Main character in the neverending story. I actually think it's much nicer than Sebastian.

CAAKE · 05/05/2018 08:22

Neverending stoo-ooooo-reeeee!

It's a yes from me purely for childhood nostalgia.
