Thoughts on Gabriella? And do you think it will get shorted to Gabby? Thanks

I like it, think it would get shortened to Gabby (which is one of the reasons my DH wants to veto it) but I like Gabby also :)

DorothyHarris · 02/05/2018 10:23

I love Gabriella, I would have called my dd Gabriella but my DH wasn't as keen.

blairsey · 02/05/2018 10:31

Love the name Gabriella, so pretty! It is likely it will get shortened to Gabi/Gabby at school - I don't really think that's a bad thing though. However, if you dislike the nn Gabby, you'll need to be pretty firm on her being called by her full first name, or establish another nn early on (such as Elle/Ella/Bree),. Smile

TinklyLittleLaugh · 02/05/2018 10:34

Yep, DD's mate is Gabby. Shame because Gabriella is beautiful.

Pompom42 · 02/05/2018 10:38

Yes nice. My DD friend is Gabrielle but gets called Gabriella, Gabs and Gabby. Her own parents actually call her Gabriella all the time even though it's not the correct name.

RoundaboutSnail · 02/05/2018 19:42

I like Gabriel, but the Gab sound in Gabriella is more abrupt and puts me off. The word "gabby" as in gossipy and over-talkative are a negative too I'm afraid.

MollyHuaCha · 02/05/2018 21:27

Gabriella is beautiful.

I'm less keen on the inevitable Gabby though.

pipilangstrumpf · 02/05/2018 21:33

I like Gabriella. She may be Gaby for short, but that's nice imo

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/05/2018 07:06

It is a lovely name, but not too keen on Gabby, of Ellie.

Gigi is the nickname of the Gabriella that I know. Very pretty.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 03/05/2018 07:12

Love it.

Asteria36 · 03/05/2018 07:12

Dsd's friend Gabriella is rather cruelly taunted with Scabby Gabby at school. Children are bloody mean and habe no appreciation for lovely names

mimibunz · 03/05/2018 07:13

I think you don’t want it shortened then you let people know it’s just Gabriella. No one has the right to give someone else a nickname except the parents.

Most names can be teased like that: Smellie Ellie, Silly Willy, etc. I wouldn't use that to rule out a name I loved.

tinykirst · 03/05/2018 08:25

Gabriella is a lovely name.

Every name can have some sort of nickname come from it but it's down to you or her if she gets called Gabriella or by a nickname. If she introduces herself as gabby she'll get called gabby, if she introduces herself as Gabriella she'll get called Gabriella. She might get close friends shouting on her as gabs

She'll just go by whatever name you choose 😁

Sunshinedaze · 03/05/2018 12:16

I love Gabriella. Dislike Gabby but love Ella and Bree. Just start calling her Bree or Ella from the start and Gabby can be avoid.

DrinkYourGreenTea · 03/05/2018 13:01

It’s a bit meh. Quite popular in my area in the 90s.

I personally don’t like the ‘gab’ sound, it’s harsh. I also know a Gabby who is cruelly nicknamed ‘Flabby Gabby’.
