I love Elodie but worry she would just become another Ellie as a nickname. Any experience?

I had a friend called Elody- we called her "Del" or "Dellie".

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 01/05/2018 21:43

It would never occur to me to shorten Elodie to Ellie. Dellie is quite sweet, as is Elo.

MaryWortleyMontagu · 01/05/2018 21:44

I know one elodie who is always elodie - no shortening.

Lollipop30 · 01/05/2018 21:45

Could be Del? Dellie?

I have an Eloise and was concerned she’d be an Ellie, however she’s been Weez since she could speak as that’s what she called herself

Patal · 01/05/2018 22:11

I know an Elodie with the nn Lola

SemperIdem · 01/05/2018 22:12

I wouldn’t think an Elodie would be nicknamed Ellie. As mentioned above Elo prn Ello seems more likely.

blairsey · 02/05/2018 00:00

I think Elle or Lodi would be the most likely nicknames to appear in school. I had a friend named Eloise which is similar, but she was always Elle or just Eloise.

ladybirdsaredotty · 02/05/2018 04:23

I know 3 (!). One is always Elodie, one is always Ellie and one is Elodie or Edie...

userabcname · 02/05/2018 07:35

I know 2 Elodies and neither shorten their names. I would associate Ellie more with Eleanor to be honest.

BeyondThePage · 02/05/2018 07:37

My aunty Elodie is Deedee.

RavenWings · 02/05/2018 07:43

Could just be Dee.

pipilangstrumpf · 02/05/2018 08:05

Names don't have to be shortened. I wouldn't shorten Elodie at all, it's so easy to pronounce

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 02/05/2018 09:42

No. Just as Eleanor isn't always shortened to Ellie. I know quite a few Eleanor's and none of them are Ellie.

chezmk1988 · 03/05/2018 14:21

I'd automatically think Ellie or Elle

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 03/05/2018 14:54

Hopefully the parent would put you straight then chezmk1988 Wink

WyfOfBathe · 03/05/2018 14:59

I know two Elodies. One always called Elodie. The other is always called Ellie/Elle, and I only found out recently it was short for Elodie.

I don't think Elodie will automatically become Ellie, but you can't prevent it. My parents gave me a name without any obvious nicknames, but I'm still mainly known by my nickname!

DrinkYourGreenTea · 03/05/2018 15:34

It would occur to me to shorten Elody to Ellie. It’s like Elouise wouldn’t be Ellie.
