Would using the name Edward Theodore be unacceptable?

Theodore is a family name and it's really important.

Edward is the only name we both agree on.

Go for it! The 2 names will rarely appear together. I know a few Brian O’Briens etc which is even stranger. But if you’re worried make it ‘Edward James Theodore’ or something

mimibunz · 01/05/2018 21:04

Lovely names together.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/05/2018 21:05

Think it’s a bit odd.

KingHenrysCodpiece · 01/05/2018 21:07

I like it. Sounds lovely, not odd at all

MaryWortleyMontagu · 01/05/2018 21:09

I don't see the issue - they are two completely separate names.

mollymawk · 01/05/2018 21:12

They’re totally different names, different origins and meanings. It’s just chance that they can both be shortened to Ted/Teddy so as long as you don’t do that you’ll be fine!

Mum2jenny · 01/05/2018 21:13

I wouldn't but can't explain why, but I think both could be abbreviated to Ted or Teddy which I don't like.

BlueTrousers · 01/05/2018 21:16

I didn’t even get why you were asking until I read the replies so I would go for it
Not many Edwards go by Ted or Teddy do they, it’d more likely be Eddie which I love
Also while he’s little you could call him Eddie Teddie Grin

TheMonkeyMummy · 01/05/2018 21:16

Ed Ted

60sname · 01/05/2018 21:20

Ha, we've just had the exact dilemma, but with the names the other way around, and the Ted/Ted thing did bother us...despite the fact that we wouldn't be shortening the names together, or even using those nicknames Hmm

We've gone for a different middle name (same ballpark).

Sophronia · 01/05/2018 21:23

It’s fine, they’re two unrelated names.

ZoSanDesu · 01/05/2018 21:25

Ted Ted is a nickname for a baby that may evolve naturally irregardless of middle name though. Family names are important. Go for it

Patienceisvirtuous · 01/05/2018 21:27

E.T.

RexManning · 01/05/2018 21:31

I think it's fine. They are totally unrelated names with multiple possible nicknames, and happen to have one nickname in common.

stopbeingadramallama · 01/05/2018 21:32

The whole names together isn't a problem and think it's quite nice but I can't get Ted/Teddy out of my head.

OlennasWimple · 01/05/2018 21:34

as well as the Ted Ted issue, the link to the inspiration for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Edward Theodore Gein ) would put me right off

Stick a third name in the middle and you're fine

CoolCarrie · 01/05/2018 21:34

There are both lovely names, go for it!

lottiegarbanzo · 01/05/2018 21:38

Fine. Nice in fact.

Yes, you could morph it into Teddy McTedface, or indeed Eddie Teddie (cute) if you liked. But there's really no need to!

If you had a Theodore and a Dorothy I'd find that odd, as they're basically the same name but Edward is not.

OlennasWimple · 01/05/2018 21:40

What about Theodore Edward?

Fezzik · 01/05/2018 21:42

It's fine, although personally I think that Theodore Edward flows a bit better.

TatianaLarina · 01/05/2018 22:51

Perfect.

Really don’t see the problem.

blairsey · 02/05/2018 00:11

On top of the 'Ted Ted' issue, I just don't think it flows very well. To me, the names simply don't sound right together. Just my opinion though.

TatianaLarina · 02/05/2018 09:24

The Ted Ted issue is bollocks.

First of all people don’t really do nns for middle names. Secondly if they were to, the most obvious dims are Ed Theo- no problem at all. And even if it was Ted Theo that’s still fine.

People spend hours on here agonising over middle names - which are basically hardly used. I doubt most of my friends even know what my middle names are.

It’s much more important that the first name runs with the surname.

chezmk1988 · 03/05/2018 14:21

The only connection is the nickname. They sound good together

evilharpy · 03/05/2018 14:28

Bill S Preston Esquire and Ted Theodore Logan?
