We are settled on Polly if the baby is a girl.

But which is better:

Polly Martha
or
Polly Mabel ?

Polly Martha (Mabel is awful)

NeedAGoodBook · 29/04/2018 22:16

Polly Martha

because Polly Mabel sounds like a syndrome Confused I like the name Mabel though. Not after Polly.

Whatalovelymug · 29/04/2018 22:17

Martha

NeedAGoodBook · 29/04/2018 22:18

I think Polly Miriam or Polly Marianne flow better though.

RoundaboutSnail · 29/04/2018 22:19

Martha

MrsHathaway · 29/04/2018 22:20

I just love Polly.

I like Martha and Mabel about equally, but tbh I'm all about meaningful middle names, so have you shortlisted those just because you like them, or because they tell a story?

CathyandHeathcliff · 29/04/2018 22:29

@MrsHathaway Just because we like them. We don't really have any names that have a great meaning behind them.
Mabel was an a family name way back though.
I just like Martha.

Polly Martha

Polly Martha.

Polly Mabel sounds like a thing. I don’t know what, but it just doesn’t sound like a name when the two names are paired together.

AnyaMoondial · 30/04/2018 02:39

I think Polly Mabel is fantastic.

Puffycat · 30/04/2018 02:41

Polly is ace btw!

scrivette · 30/04/2018 03:31

I like Polly Mable, I love Polly.

Movablefeast · 30/04/2018 03:33

Copperbonnet · 30/04/2018 04:34

Martha is a great name.

LoveInTokyo · 30/04/2018 08:13

Polly is a great name!

No strong feelings about Martha or Mabel.

CathyandHeathcliff · 30/04/2018 08:14

Thank you all.

Another one came to me earlier, Polly Florence...?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/04/2018 12:48

Polly Alice
Polly Matilda
Polly Lucinda
Polly Henrietta

CathyandHeathcliff · 30/04/2018 18:06

I like Matilda. DP doesn't.

I'm not sure if Polly Alice works and I'm not so keen on the other two.

I think we'll go with Polly Martha or Polly Florence.

I think Polly Florence is best. Martha and Mabel are both rather "servant" names to me - a bit "drudge in the back kitchen" sort of thing, though I do like Martha. I don't like Mabel at all. And Polly's more a "housemaid" name. So Florence gives it a bit more oomph.

WinnieThePooh6 · 30/04/2018 22:25

Martha x

CathyandHeathcliff · 02/05/2018 13:43

@daisypond I must be strange but I quite like the servant vibe 😉
I think we're going with Polly Martha if baby is a girl.

I know someone with two girls, Polly and Martha so I guess those names go together. I agree that pollymabel sounds like a thing.
