Bruno?

Still so undecided on boys names...Bruno was my grandad's name-Italian. DH really likes it...DC blurted out to MIL and she said it's a dog's name. I understand where she's coming from.. But a bit down now ... What do you think of the name? We haven't had one that clicks for both of us.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Coveredinbeeeeeeeeeeeees · 24/04/2018 13:16

I think of Sacha Baron-Cohen, sorry.

Padfootprongs · 24/04/2018 13:17

I love it! And didn't think 'dogs name' when I read that. Thought of Bruno Mars! I know dogs called Oscar, Freddie, Alfie, Charlie etc etc so personally I wouldn't let that put me off!

LittlePotSoonHot · 24/04/2018 13:20

I think of Bicycle Thieves - so sweet. Great name

MoistCantaloupe · 24/04/2018 13:22

I think Frank Bruno - I always think it sounds very masculine

stellinaa · 24/04/2018 13:25

My mind goes straight to Bruno Mars! So wouldn't worry about that 'dog name' comment. If you love it, go for it! I don't see the issue.
I like the name, but would personally use it only as a middle name as it is quite a particular name, and doesn't feel very modern or timeless to me (basically just not my style).

mrspicklepants27 · 24/04/2018 13:27

Great name! And there's little chance of there being another in his class. Fab choice

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 24/04/2018 13:28

I know two (one child, one adult), think it's a fabulous name. I would have liked it for DC, but doesn't go with our surname.

AgathaRaisinsCat · 24/04/2018 13:31

Sadly my instant thought was 'dog' but I think that goes back to a childhood (and not so childhood) obsession with the Chalet School books.

BringMeCoffeePlease · 24/04/2018 13:39

Yep, it’s a dog’s name.

At the school I went to, Bruno would have bullied massively. And I think still now, this name would be found comical by some.

ValleyClouds · 24/04/2018 13:43

When we got a dog the first dog we met was Bruno.

Also it strikes me as the sort of name Roald Dahl would give a nose picker! (Sorry)

Sophronia · 24/04/2018 13:48

I quite like it.

TatianaLarina · 24/04/2018 17:44

Never met a dog called Bruno - have met doggy Oscar Charlie and Harry, Jake, Otto - no-one seems to think those are dog’s names.

UrgentExitRequired · 24/04/2018 17:46

I think of Frank Bruno or a really fat person. Not sure why.

BreakHerOffAKitKat · 24/04/2018 17:50

My dog is called Bruno. Not sure if that's helpful or not but I love the name

Bear2014 · 24/04/2018 17:54

My 12 year old cousin is Bruno, he is a cool kid and likes his name.

userabcname · 24/04/2018 17:54

I know a Bruno - he is of Italian descent I believe. I don't mind it to be honest. It doesn't make me think of a dog!

crazymumofthree · 24/04/2018 18:16

I love it!! Super cute and if it has a meaning to it even more so!! Ignore what others say, no matter what name you choose people will always have an opinion!!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 24/04/2018 19:18

I like it too !

daisypond · 24/04/2018 19:24

I like it. I don't think it's a dog's name.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 24/04/2018 19:25

sorry all i can think of is 'My name is Bruno, i am 19 yearss old...'

and 'das is nicht meine haarbrush'

MyKingdomForBrie · 24/04/2018 19:27

I hate that ‘it’s a dog’s name’ bullshit. Unless you’re going for ‘fido’ it really isn’t a dog’s name. Just because people (especially recently) call their dogs by names that are also used for humans doesn’t suddenly render it a dog’s name!

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/04/2018 19:31

I thought of the character Bruno Martelli in the 80's series Fame. am showing my age

Patal · 24/04/2018 19:33

I LOVE Bruno! I know the sweetest 6yo called Bruno so nothing but fondness for the name from me

HonkyWonkWoman · 24/04/2018 19:35

Sorry Bruno is a dogs name in uk.

Also Bruno the bear.
Plus don't like the name any way.

tierraJ · 24/04/2018 20:02

Bruno is the German boy in The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.

I had a pet rabbit called Bruno.
