My OH has fallen in love with baby names that i am super sceptical about...Wilbur for a boy and Therese for a girl my picks are Tessa James for a girl and Robert James (bobby) for a boy...slightly different.... can we take a poll??? Blush what do people prefer and any negative connotations that we are overlooking

I think both Tessa James and Robert James sound gorgeous!
Agree with you on Wilbur and Therese though.. not a fan at all. Wilbur feels like what you'd name a guinea pig and Therese is very dated.

AnyaMoondial · 24/04/2018 10:00

I love Tessa. Personally I'm not ready for James to be a girl name though . Robert James is lovely.

I like Wilbur but Therese is too close to the PM's name for me!

disappearingninepatch · 24/04/2018 10:04

You obviously have much better taste in names than him. Start calling HIM 'Wilbur'. See how he likes it then. I do agree with Anya about James for a girl, though.

HoneyBadger32 · 24/04/2018 10:30

The James for a girl would just be a middle name rather than an everyday Tessa-James name. It's an old family name that I have in the middle of my name too, so it's less weird to me, although OH did draw the line at James for a girl Grin. I actually love the name May, but Tessa may is probably a little close to the PM, although when the little one was old enough she may be a distant memory Blush

He was previously trying to convince me of Francis for a boy, so I used the feature on the apple box where you can name its location to rename it Francis so I could veto it.

I like all the names but wouldn't use James for a girl.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 24/04/2018 12:57

I love Wilbur, Francis and Robert, James is a great name too, but I draw the line there.😄
Not keen on Therese, but love Tessa.
Tessa Rae
Tessa Marie
Tessa Wren
Tessa Willow
Tessa Frances

Zaya71 · 24/04/2018 13:01

I love the name Therese but would spell it Terese, you could put this on bc then use Tessa as a nickname. I really wanted Terese (pronounced Ter-aze) nn Tess for DD1 but it got vetoed :(

I love James as a middle name for either a boy or girl, not a fan of Wilbur though.

Zaya71 · 24/04/2018 13:10

Also - I LOVE Francis!

FusRoDah · 24/04/2018 13:18

Agree with pp that a good compromise would be to go with Therese (I'd stick with that spelling) then abbreviate to Tessa for everyday. Not all that convinced by James for girls, but ok as a middle name especially as there's a family significance.
I wouldn't worry about the PM, she'll be long gone soon.

Wilbur is awful, Robert James is really nice Smile. Francis is a bit meh.

BringMeCoffeePlease · 24/04/2018 13:40

Wilbur and Tessa.

Wilbur is most certainly not awful. It’s lovely.

BevBrook · 24/04/2018 13:43

Therese could be Tessa day to day
I prefer Robert/ Bobby to Wilbur but don't think Wilbur is horrific. I wouldn't name my son Wilbur because I don't love it, and it reminds me of the pig in Charlotte's Web, but if I came across a Wilbur I wouldn't think "Good God, what a name!"

whatshappening1 · 24/04/2018 13:49

Wilbur is a pig name and Therese I’m not a fan of either, the others sound great however

HoneyBadger32 · 24/04/2018 16:23

I just think with Therese people won't instantly recognise the pronunciation as ter-aze so who knows what she'd get called Blush

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/04/2018 16:25

Tessa is lovely. The only one I like.

Robert is fab but can’t stand Bob.

PinkCalluna · 24/04/2018 16:28

Therese is a pretty common name IME I’d be surprised if people had problems with it.

I’m not overly keen on Wilbur but Will is nice.

I like Robert but don’t like Bobbie. Rob or Robbie are both great though.

Tessa is fine and I really like Tess.

pipilangstrumpf · 24/04/2018 16:30

I like Therese and Robert.

tickyticky · 24/04/2018 17:05

Wilbur is amazing!!

Not a fan of Therese, Tessa is way nicer!

Good luck op Smile

Buntysoven · 24/04/2018 22:58

I LOVE Wilbur. Dislike Bobby because I knew one who was a thieving sleazeball but that's my problem. Ambivalent about the girl's names.

MikeUniformMike · 24/04/2018 23:10

Bobby gets a No from me, but Robbie is fine.
Therese is nice but is it Ter-ez, Ter-eeze, Ter-aze... ?
Tess is lovely, and I prefer it to Tessa.'t l don't like Wilbur.

stellinaa · 25/04/2018 00:32

The correct pronunciation of Therese is Te-rez (rhymes with Perez). It is Tay-rez in french though. I think a lot of people would struggle with it however, so take that with a grain of salt.
