Hubby doesn't like name

So I love the name Mila, I love it so much I can't think of any other names at all.
My husband doesn't love it but he said if I really want it, it's fine.

Really we should find a name we both love but I honestly can't see past this one.

He likes Chloe (nope) Maddison (my friends daughters name) and Millie - which I said he could call Mila!

What do you think?

She's not coming till September but I'm a little bit obsessed with this name

I’m not keen, it seems bit “celeb-trendy” due to Mila Kunis.

How about Mia or Maya/Maia?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/04/2018 22:37

Well if he doesn't love it but is on board I think that's okay. If okay is enough, mind.
However I do think you should use Chloe as a mn for your dh. It's only fair you both get to use the names you love. He's met you half way.

RedDwarves · 21/04/2018 22:38

Mila and Millie have different sounds, so it's contrived to suggest he could call a Mila Millie as a nickname.

I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of Mila. It is very linked with Mila Kunis and is having a bit of a moment right now. I think it will date.

I think you both need to like the name, if not love it. He likes Chloe, you've vetoed it; you like Mila, he also has the right to veto it.

Dozer · 21/04/2018 22:40

Awful name, and people will frequently get the pronunciation wrong.

It’s unreasonable to only want one name.

LastNightsMakeUp · 21/04/2018 22:43

You've got 5 months to find a name you both love. You'll get there. No need to put all your eggs in one basket so early on.

I don't mind Mila but it does remind me of milia spots...

Brokenbiscuit · 21/04/2018 22:45

Don't like it personally, but it doesn't matter what I think. If you love it and DH is happy enough to go with it, then go for it.

HappyLollipop · 21/04/2018 22:45

I love the name Mila, it's very pretty. I too only had one name I truly loved and always came back to it for my DS much like your husband my partner was happy for me to use it even though he wasn't as keen on it as I was! I'd go for it if I was you.

BackforGood · 21/04/2018 22:55

Do you say it 'Mile-ah' ?

I'm not keen myself, however, that isn't important. What is important is that you and your dh find a name you both really like. You've got months yet. There are thousands upon thousands of names out there. Keep looking.
In 4 months time, if you've not found 'the one', then you might have to go for one he 'doesn't mind', but keep in mind then for dc2, you'll have to be prepared to accept a name you aren't keen on.

Flossie4 · 21/04/2018 23:04

Not fond of the name. It will cause pronunciation problems Mile-ah or Mill-ah. Sounds odd both ways imo. As others have said, it is best to choose a name you both love.

I picked three and put them to DH (and added ones he quite liked) and was very pleased that each time he picked the one I liked most.

chezmk1988 · 21/04/2018 23:05

I like it but I only imagine it suiting a person from a different country like Mila kunis. It doesn't seem like an English name so if you're both British I might sway against it.

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:05

@Awwlookatmybabyspider I did say that but he doesn't want any middle name at all

Moira, Mara, Mona, Layla, Lara?

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:07

@Sophronia I've always like Mia but it seems so has everyone else lately.
I must have about 7 or 8 clients with a little one called Mia.
I mentioned maya but he said it sounds too like MYA the cosmetic surgery company - I don't think it does but hey ho

I like Mila but only because I love the actress Mila Kunis. I would never use it as a name for a baby as it’s become too popular and reminds me now of all the children that were named Jordan when Katie price was Jordan in her early fame.

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:11

@HappyLollipop

Thank you Hun.
He was the name with the dogs name I chose - hated it, and now loves it!

He's actually the same with everything - holiday destinations, places to do, even getting married!

Doesn't want to make a decision, so I do, he hates it and then he absolutely loves it after haha!

To be fair he chose us a new house then just told me we were moving!
Got to say I bloody love the house tho

Mila kunis is meela not mile a or milla so there's already 2 mispronunciations she could get. I think it's pretty though. But like a pp said, you have plenty of time to find a name you both love - try to be open minded!

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:12

I actually wouldn't mind Chloe if I didn't have 2 friends with the name

OP posts:
ibicus · 21/04/2018 23:12

Mary, Misty, Myla, Moya, Mina, Meg, Meadow, Marian, Margery?!

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:13

Every single name I have come up with he doesn't like any of them.
:(

I would personally just go with the name YOU want. You went through pregnancy and will go through birth and probably be it's life/food source and main carer! X

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:19

I had no idea Mila kunis was having a moment - so out of the loop!

I saw the name on a baby name app

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:23

@ibicus I'm thinking that that's why my husband has this approach to it to be honest .
He's said he'll be at the birth of our child if I want him/need him there 100% - not that he wants to be there so my best friend is going to be there. Subject to change obviously.

Jeez sometimes I think he's 70 not 50!

We are very much in love and happy just in case anyone thinks it doesn't look that way!

Ragusa · 21/04/2018 23:24

Lilah/ Lila, is nice and a bit less à la mode.

Sounds like he cant be bothered to do the hardd work thinking/ researching but just wants to have the final say. So.. maybe you need to give hima deadline to come up with 10 new suggestions and if he doesn't you get to go with the name you like.

ibicus · 21/04/2018 23:25

I think woman only births are the best I had 2 women and 2 midwives but I am a single mum. Obviously it's a complete personal choice!

Penguin34 · 21/04/2018 23:26

@Ragusa

Good suggestion re 10 make deadline tho I might make it 5.

Those names are lovely but my cousins two are Lily and Layla - couldn't really be any closer.
