Thoughts on Desmond?

It would almost certainly be the middle name, and the first name would likely be something quite run of the mill (James, Samuel, Edward, Oscar are some of the contenders)

I like it but it makes me think of the TV show 'Desmonds' my nanas cousin played his wife actually.

Don’t use it as a first name unless you want your son to be known as ‘Dez’/‘Dezza’.

I’m not keen on it at all but it could work as a middle name. Is it a family name?

RedDwarves · 20/04/2018 22:48

It’s not a family name, just a name we like. DH also liked Linus, but it reminds me of th Peanuts character too much. Grin

I don't like it at all personally, but it's harmless enough as a middle name.

chezmk1988 · 20/04/2018 23:12

I really hate it

Naberes · 21/04/2018 00:19

I’m really not keen either, sorry. I prefer Raymond (Ray!) or Edmund, which I love.

Joeybee · 21/04/2018 02:53

It's fine for a middle name. I wouldn't use it as a first name though, it's too clunky. I just think of Desmond Tutu

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/04/2018 10:00

Good for a middle name, but I do love Raymond !

gwen25 · 21/04/2018 11:15

I really love it!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 21/04/2018 11:19

I know a 3 year old Desmond. At first I was ShockShockShock He's Dez / Dezzy a lot of the time. Hm!

Aprilmightbemynewname · 21/04/2018 11:21

My neighbour had a dd called Najali and a ds called Desmond, a dc called Desmond was just odd!!

Buxbaum · 21/04/2018 19:05

I much prefer Linus.

RoundaboutSnail · 21/04/2018 19:08

I don't like it, sorry.

EmmaC78 · 21/04/2018 19:11

I don't like it either.

LaraDarling · 21/04/2018 19:30

I'm going to go against the grain and say that I absolutely love the name Desmond. Reminds me of Desmond Dekker. I think it's a bit of a marmite name to be honest. I say go for it if you love it.

TamiTayorismyparentingguru · 21/04/2018 19:34

I don’t mind Desmond and know a few who have it shortened to Desi (no z in any of them!). As a middle name it wouldn’t get shortened though so not really something you need to worry about.

I LOVE Linus and would have used it for DS except that DH vetoed it. It was definitely one of my top contenders though!

Sophronia · 21/04/2018 19:46

James Desmond sounds good.

buttercup54321 · 21/04/2018 23:42

I like it though I prefer Raymond.
