Hello all.

This is my first post so go easy on me Smile. Expecting baby number 2 in July. Have agreed boys name with DH but really struggling with girls. Our preferred name for a long time was Esme, however we then discovered the huge debate about the correct pronounciation of this name, since it really should be Esmay which we like less. Thus, we have had to go back to the drawing board. Our current list in alphabetical order is:

Arabella
Elodie
Matilida
Otillie

Would be grateful if people could comment and rank these names in order of preference. Please feel free to offer any other suggestions which could be described as classic, vintage or unusual. We do not want an overly popular name hence I have grave reservations about Matilda but hey our list is so small and we can’t agree on anything else, so it has to stay on there for now. Would really appreciate any help!!

Thank you all for rating my names. It appears that Matilda comes 1st/2nd in many peoples list. Elodie also popular and Ottilie/Arabella marmite names. I like them all but don’t know if we have the ‘one’ yet, hence why I asked for suggestions. These have been gratefully recieved and please keep them coming particularly those with at least 3 syllables. I need many suggestions in my arsenal to throw at DH so hopefully he will like one. To comment on most recent ones that stand out:

Aurelia - another one that has gone back and forth with DH. It is beautiful no question and fits our requirements. Need to raise this with DH again.

Mmmmm Rosalie, that is a very pretty name. Really like this, thank you.

Early on in this thread, Annabel was suggested which I did not respond to. I definitely like this but is it not getting popular too?

Emmeline - probably my 1st/2nd favourite name which I previously proposed to DH ages ago and again last night. But alas it’s still a no, even though her nn would like be emmie which is really cute.

Really like Rosalie and Annabel.

Annabel might be getting popular but I don’t think it’s showing signs of being the next Lily or Evie.

I’m in the Ottilie ‘love’ camp and is on our list! It is definitely marmite though.

My favourites are

  1. Ottilie
  2. Matilda
  3. Elodie
  4. Arabella

Like all of them though. Only one I’m not sure on is Arabella. It’s a bit too frilly to me
