Names and nicknames... for twin girls

HermioneGrace · 11/04/2018 15:01

I really like the girl names Cordelia, Bailey, Oakley, Willow, Cora, Sydney, Winter and Luna; but, I’m stuck on nicknames for them. I have to choose two for my twin girls and I think it’ll come down to which nicknames are the nicest. Any ideas of nicknames and other names?

Cora & Luna are nice names for twins. Or Sydney & Willow.

Don't worry about pre-determining nicknames - it's more personal when they evolve naturally through a relationship with the person.

Ruby896528 · 11/04/2018 15:06

I really like Oakley and Willow

calzone · 11/04/2018 15:08

Luna could be LuLu

How about Cecily and Cece for a nickname?

BlueChampagne · 11/04/2018 15:09

Agree - nicknames will emerge with their personalities, and may be nothing to do with their actual names.

HermioneGrace · 11/04/2018 15:16

Okay cool, thanks guys! You’ve made me a whole lot less stressed on the nicknames part! :) I kind of like Cece as a nickname for Cecilia. Thanks so much for your ideas!!

Love Cordelia and Sydney. Which will probably end up as Cordy and Sid, which are quite cool.

Cora and Luna
Willow and Cora
Cordelia and Willow

also work, but not as good as the first combo.

AnyaMoondial · 11/04/2018 15:19

Cora is a good nn for Cordelia which is good since you like both!

MrsHathaway · 11/04/2018 15:23

Nicknames only matter if there's something you actively dislike (e.g. if you hate Charlie you should avoid Charlotte).

Bailey and Oakley sound very masculine to me, especially compared to the others on the list.

I like Cora and Luna best.

IggyAce · 13/04/2018 07:04

Don't focus on nn as they end up been influenced by friends. My DD is Imogen we used Immi but when she started school told us she didn't like it as it sounded too much like her best friends name Amy. Now she is older friends call her Idgy (I'm not a fan, but only friends use that).

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/04/2018 08:54

I like Cordelia (Cordy), and Oakley (KoKo).

Buxbaum · 13/04/2018 08:57

I'd very much consider Bailey and Oakley to be boys' names, and know several of each.

The rest of your choices are lovely.

TattyMonkey · 13/04/2018 09:02

I like all of those names except I personally wouldn’t use Luna for a child due to the negative associations with the word lunatic. I know Luna means the moon and that is where the word lunatic for crazy also stems from but I would be worried about negative associations. My daughter has a Bailey in her class and I have never thought of it as masculine. Likewise I don’t find Oakley to sound masculine because of the ‘lee’ ending which to me works for either sex.

stellinaa · 13/04/2018 09:30

Best pairing imo would be:
Bailey (B/Bee/Leigh) & Cordelia (Cory/Coco/Lia)

Also love the names Oakley and Cecelia! If you like using nicknames though, I wouldn't go with Willow (nn Willie?). Can see this happening in a playground iyswim.

Namethecat · 13/04/2018 09:33

I know a couple who have twin girls - Iona and Skye. As they are short names they don't have nicknames.

chezmk1988 · 13/04/2018 11:23

None of those names would be my cup of tea but if I had to choose I'd choose Willow and Luna. Now sure I'd have nicknames for those though.

Cordelia could be Delia/lia

Bailey could be Leigh

Sydney would inevitably be a sid

Hersetta427 · 13/04/2018 12:25

Sorry I find at least half of them too masculine for girls and I personally hate twee cutesy nicknames.

MikeUniformMike · 13/04/2018 18:43

Idgy is way better than Immi/Immy. It's cool.

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/04/2018 16:29

I'd go for Cordelia and Sydney - Cordy and Syd (if she must have a nn i prefer just Sydney)

I really hate Bailey (sounds like the name of a dog) and Oakley is awful. The others are nice enough

Sunshinewater · 14/04/2018 16:40

Luna - Lulu & Cordelia -Deeley/ Delia / Ely

You could always pick a middle name with a nickname you like and use that as her nickname ie Winter Rose ( Rosie).

NameyMcChangeRae · 15/04/2018 19:51

Cora and Luna,
nicknames:
Coco and Lulu
