A shortlist that can’t be shortened.

Me and my partner are expecting our second daughter. We have an Erin Angelica and this baby’s middle name will be Avril. We have no problem making a mile long list but we’re never happy to shorten it or figure out which one is “right”. With 9 weeks to go I’m starting to panic! Our list is: Penelope, Lucy, Gwen, Quinn, Fleur, Maya or Felicity. Advice and suggestions are welcomed.. thanks!

Lucy best, then Quinn, dislike Felicity/Flick.

Penelope Avril - would work fairly well I think, would be my 3rd choice.
Lucy Avril - would work the best, in my opinion & sounds good with Erin.
Gwen Avril - I like Gwen well enough, but not with Avril.
Quinn Avril - love the name Quinn, just not with Avril.
Fleur Avril - the names seem to run together too easy, so not a favourite.
Maya Avril - sounds like you're saying the months backwards!
Felicity Avril - lovely. Would be my 2nd choice.

Can I ask is Maya pronounced 'May a' or My a' thank you :)

Penelope - nice, but will be Penny
Lucy - lovelyGwen - ok
Quinn - I would assume boy
Fleur - Lovely but not with Avril
Maya - very common and will be mispronounced/misspelt all the time
Felicity - too long

I like April but think Avril sounds like Bovril

They're all fine except Quinn. I would think quim too - don't do this to your daughter. Maya will be mispronounced but it's OK. I like all the others.

Felicity Avril is so pretty and flows very well.

I don't like Quinn for a girl at all, and not keen on Gwen or Maya and don't think they go with Avril.

Fleur would be my second favourite and Lucy and Penelope are pretty too, but don't fit as well as Felicity with Avril.

I really like Felicity Avril, for me it’s the stand out from your list.

The worst is Quinn, a surname rather than a first name for a girl imo and doesn’t go with Avril.

I wouldn't choose Lucy. Too many I know are shortened to Luce. The thing about shortenings is that unless there's a predetermined nickname in use, school friends always seem to go for one that parents don't really care for

Fliss or Flick is so much better than Luce.

Penelope - ok
Lucy - very bland imo
Gwen - like it, doesn't sit particularly well with Avril though
Quinn - no, as an Irish person it's a supermarket/shady businessman/insurance company
Fleur - no
Maya - meh. I like it in theory but it's just a bit nothing-y as a name. Insubstantial.
Felicity - I like this, and it's nice with Avril

I would avoid initials FA (sweet FA 🤣) and PA. Also, what us surname initial since there is quite a lot of potential for unfortunately initials... names wise I like Lucy best.

Lucy or Penelope would be best with Erin for sure and are very pretty names too!
