Morven or Iona

Apologies for the serial postings of Morven vs another name but this forum has been so helpful for narrowing down our list, thank you so much! What's your preference of Morven or Iona for our DD2 due in two weeks? Both Scottish names which is where I'm from but we live in SE England. DD1 is called Eira (pronounced Ay-ra, husband's Welsh side). Thank you!

Morven.

I don't know why but I've never been keen on Iona.

EssentialHummus · 07/04/2018 17:26

Iona, by a long way.

zukiecat · 07/04/2018 17:26

I'm Scottish too and it's hard to choose between those names as both are so lovely!

I think I slightly prefer Iona, but I'd have a hard time deciding too

welshweasel · 07/04/2018 17:27

How are you wanting to pronounce Iona?

Scottishgirl85 · 07/04/2018 17:30

Iona would be eye-o-na.

It's so hard! Wish I was having twin girls so could use both!!

Love both, but it’s got to be Morven!

wooster16 · 07/04/2018 17:33

Morven 100%! Beautiful name

welshweasel · 07/04/2018 17:41

I love Iona but the Welsh way (Yona). With you having an Eira, having a Scottish Iona might be confusing!

CountFosco · 07/04/2018 17:54

I'm Scottish and of those two definately Morven. Iona is lovely but a bit pretty pretty and too popular. Only issue with Morven is can you cope with the English non-rhotic pronounciation? Love Eira BTW.

IVflytrap · 07/04/2018 18:21

Morven is lovely and would be my choice. Although Iona is also pretty, there are more joke possibilities along the "I own a..." lines. None of that with Morven.

Plus Eira and Iona together looks a bit like you're sticking to a theme (four letter girls' names ending in A).

gwen25 · 07/04/2018 18:29

Definitely Morven.

Scottishgirl85 · 07/04/2018 18:53

Thanks for the replies so far. Seems Morven is winning. Middle name will be Alice no matter what the first name. More opinions welcome!

Definitely Morven. I want to use it for any future daughter I have.

Whyiseveryonesoangry · 07/04/2018 18:59

I was going to say call her Morven Iona because they go well together. But if the middle name is to be Alice, then I think Morven Alice sounds better than Iona Alice.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 07/04/2018 19:00

Must her middle name be Alice? Morven Iona Surname could be lovely...

Scottishgirl85 · 07/04/2018 19:14

Alice was the name of her great-gran who is no longer with us, pretty set on that middle name...

I adore Morven, really wonderful.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/04/2018 20:39

Morven.

MaryPoppinsStoleMyHandbag · 07/04/2018 20:42

Morven goes better with Eira imo.

AmysTiara · 07/04/2018 20:44

Iona is nice but I dislike Morven. It sounds really harsh.

ChocolateCrunch · 07/04/2018 20:46

Morven, 100%.

titsbumfannythelot · 07/04/2018 20:48

Depends on your surname for Iona, which I hear as I-own-a. Have heard of both Iona Wrench and Iona Slipper.

DuggeeHugs · 07/04/2018 22:01

Morven Alice Iona

Wollstonecraft1 · 07/04/2018 22:04

Iona. Hate Morven, sorry.

BearFoxBear · 07/04/2018 22:05

Morven, I love it.
