We can't, can we?

So my husband and I have recently decided we really like the name Wilf (admittedly this could be hormonal craziness).

However our surname is Wild.

Does this totally veto it or can it work because of the different sound of Wild to Wilf?

So Wilf Wild, yes or no?

I love it!

Do it!

WhalesOfYore · 07/04/2018 15:09

Time to bring out the good old police megaphone:

.

No, really, don't do it! Or at least go with something funny, like "Hog"! Grin

FancyNewBeesly · 07/04/2018 15:09

Do you honestly have to ask?

Of course you bloody can’t! Poor kid

DustyOwl · 07/04/2018 15:13

Having worked with children for two decades I have come across far worse and I quite like it. It will also make it easy for him to read Magic Key books at school. Go for it.

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 07/04/2018 15:30

Ok so it sounds like a cool fab cartoon name.

And what if you don't have a cool cartoon extrovert confident kid who can carry it off with flair and a fedora at a jaunty angle? What if you have a shy or quiet or introverted kid who loathes having to give his rather bizarre name? Wild is a great surname to go with loads of strong, simple names without turning him into a cliche.

PuppyMonkey · 07/04/2018 15:39

Agree Wild is such a brilliant surname, it goes with any name.

Lonesurvivor · 07/04/2018 15:42

Put it in as a second name and the option is always there to use/include it if you or he prefer.

Glitterandunicorns · 07/04/2018 15:50

Hi OP, my toddler son is called Wilf, so obviously I love it!

I rather like the name Wilf Wild, but in case it influences your decision, be aware that every time I type my son's name, it autocorrects to Wild!

insancerre · 07/04/2018 15:52

I love Wilfred wild

TatianaLarina · 07/04/2018 16:24

No definitely not.

On the plus side, Wild is a fabulous surname.

CeeCeeMacFay · 07/04/2018 16:26

I like it too

haverhill · 07/04/2018 16:27

Agree that Wild is a v cool surname. Wilf however makes him sound like a fictional character. I’m not sure that something he will appreciate.

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 07/04/2018 16:30

I bloody love it. Outing, but my surname is Quinn and I really really loved the name Finn. Couldn't bring myself to name ds Finn Quinn though Grin

DBoo · 07/04/2018 16:32

Love it!

ducksandrivers · 07/04/2018 16:33

LOVE Wilf Wild!

But then again dc2 is going to be a Wilfred, Wilf for short...so I'm definitely biased! Grin

Mamabear4180 · 07/04/2018 19:13

awful. Poor kid.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 07/04/2018 20:53

I really like it.

I might experiment with an initial as part of the first name.

Wilf K. Wild

Wilf B. Wild (has downsides)

I like the name a lot.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 07/04/2018 20:54

Wilf Wild sounds AWESOME!

Uniglo18 · 07/04/2018 21:41

Ralph Wilfred Wild

Namelessnumbertwo · 07/04/2018 21:42

Wilfred Wild is a great name! Very memorable

KateMcCallisterHAmom · 08/04/2018 00:50

I do not like granny/grandpa -chic names one bit, but Wild is such a fantastic surname for a Wilf, it works. I'd go with Wilfred so he has options - Wilfred Wild is good, Fred Wild works great if he wants to drop the alliteration. Please give him an O middle name so his initials are WOW! Just O will do. When asked, he can say the O is for nothing. Get it?! Grin
I really like the different 'i' sounds together. Short i long i. It's all good! Do it!

Are you hoping for a second child? What on earth could you call a second child that would be as awesome as Wilf Wild?!

KateMcCallisterHAmom · 08/04/2018 00:54

Wolfric is also awesome!

blinkineckmum · 08/04/2018 02:14

It's a great name.

TatianaLarina · 08/04/2018 10:39

Wolfric is better.

DanceDisaster · 08/04/2018 10:55

Wilfred Wild or Wulfric Wild are both awesome. Wilf is more of a random sound than a name to me for some reason. Is it traditionally a full name or is it a shortening which has become a name in its own right, like Charlie or Harry?
