We can't, can we?

So my husband and I have recently decided we really like the name Wilf (admittedly this could be hormonal craziness).

However our surname is Wild.

Does this totally veto it or can it work because of the different sound of Wild to Wilf?

So Wilf Wild, yes or no?

Wilfred is a fantastic name and Wilf is a lovely nickname for it. I'm not sure it works with your surname. I'm not a fan of alliteration with names, also it sounds a bit like 'Wolf Wild' which is horrible.
I have the same problem, my favourite name is Raphael but my surname is a double-barrelled R name, so it just doesn't work.

Buntysoven · 06/04/2018 23:15

I bloody love it!

starsandstuff · 06/04/2018 23:23

Unless you're giving birth to a cartoon teenage detective I would say no.

twattymctwatterson · 06/04/2018 23:28

Really glad someone brought up the porn star thing.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback and some definitely had me laughing 😂 (Though I guess not what you want for your child's name)

There seems to be a lot of love for it, but it's very polarising and I think the negatives are so strong I'm not sure I'd want to sidle my child with it. DH isn't put off yet but I think I'll put it in reserve for my future old English sheepdog 🐶

It's amazing. Wilf Wild would be the coolest kid in the playground. Please don't waste it on a dog Sad

I love names that alliterate and that sound like the should be characters from a superhero comic book. But I bottled it when came to my own children who both have solid, classic names.

bigfishlittlefishtupperwarebox · 07/04/2018 07:16

I think it sounds fab!

Could you have a middle name starting with O so his initials could spell WOW as well Grin

bigfishlittlefishtupperwarebox · 07/04/2018 07:17

Joking about the initials... obviously...

So long as he's Wilfred Wild to break it up a bit and give him options, yes it would be OK.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 07/04/2018 10:01

Don't do it.

pipilangstrumpf · 07/04/2018 11:47

I guess in English the i in Wilf isn't pronounced like the i in Wild, so it seems to work.

In other languages it would be pronounced Wilf Willd, not so good!

AnyaMoondial · 07/04/2018 14:08

It sounds great.

RockinRobinTweets · 07/04/2018 14:10

Wilfred and then he can be Freddie or Wilf when he grows up

MikeUniformMike · 07/04/2018 14:29

I'm not mad about Wilf short for Wilfred, but Wilf Wild is pretty cool.

usernomnomnom · 07/04/2018 14:31

I like it

Littlebitty · 07/04/2018 14:33

Perhaps Wilfred as a middle name? But I am a boring person!Grin

RepealMay25th · 07/04/2018 14:39

God no, he's a real person not a cartoon. It's all very well thinking its cool but you're not the one who has to actually have the name for an entire lifetime.

carameldecaflatte · 07/04/2018 14:41

I think it's a great name. Sounds cool.

DairyisClosed · 07/04/2018 14:43

Wilfred Wild is epic. I love it.

ToriRay · 07/04/2018 14:45

Absolutely brilliant! Yes, yes, yes!

pinkpanther84 · 07/04/2018 14:45

I love the name Wilf, but not with Wild

PuppyMonkey · 07/04/2018 14:48

No no no... it’s got to be Wolf Wild.

MrsMozart · 07/04/2018 14:56

Love it Grin

You could break it up with a middle name, so something like 'Wilf J. Wild'.
