Ariella - what's your thoughts on this name?

This is our current top pick for a girl that my husband and I can agree on ... we have a very short and harsh surname so wanted something pretty and not too common either.
Also we thought we could shorten to Ella or Ari later on too...
Can I have some opinions on what you think?

It's pretty although I prefer Mariella

SuburbanRhonda · 04/04/2018 22:34

Sounds like a made-up name or a Disney character. Sorry.

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 04/04/2018 22:34

I do really like it..... But I can't help but hear 'areola' when I see/hear it.

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 04/04/2018 22:35

Ooooh yes, Mariella is lovely!

DropZoneOne · 04/04/2018 22:36

What about Aurelia?

littlepill · 04/04/2018 22:37

I don't like it, sorry! Sounds too made up. However, Mariella is lovely.

ChocolateCrunch · 05/04/2018 06:26

I prefer Mariella too

MiniMaxi · 05/04/2018 06:36

I like it, and it's definitely not made up!

Nice meaning too (Lioness of God I think)

OliviaStabler · 05/04/2018 06:38

The first thing I think is American so I would pronounce it R-E-ella but I like the name.

LadyTesticlee · 05/04/2018 06:41

Too disney and similar to Areola

Bufferingkisses · 05/04/2018 06:49

I thought thevsame as Ellen when i saw the thread title.

MynameisJune · 05/04/2018 06:52

I know a little Ariella, she is gorgeous. Gets called Ari. I think it’s a lovely name.

MadMaryBoddington · 05/04/2018 06:54

Too fussy.

inamechangedforthispost · 05/04/2018 06:57

Too Disney. Aurelia is pretty though.

AnnieOH1 · 05/04/2018 06:57

Maybe because I'm not awake yet but it made me think spider. (I think from the similarity with Ariadne) - sorry :/

TipseyTorvey · 05/04/2018 06:57

I love it. Bit different, pretty and refreshing but then my DC have slightly different names too so I think you're either a traditional name sort of person, or someone who wants something that is less likely to be in the top 40. The two don't cross over too much.

Wellmeetontheledge · 05/04/2018 07:10

What about Arianne or Ariana?

ElChan03 · 05/04/2018 07:13

I know one. She gets called Larry. I like it. It's different but not too put there!

Afreshcuppateaplease · 05/04/2018 07:15

I like it!

FluffyMcCloud · 05/04/2018 07:16

Sorry I immediately thought areola too!

mathanxiety · 05/04/2018 07:22

Disney and areola (weird combination).

EasterRobin · 05/04/2018 08:03

My first thought in reading the thread title was areola too. But I wouldn't have thought that if I was school age (because I didn't know the word then).

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 05/04/2018 08:17

I don't like it, sorry. Way too Disney Princessy. I really like Aurelia though.

ooerrmissus · 05/04/2018 08:44

I like it. It's a Hebrew name meaning Lion, not made up.

Futter · 05/04/2018 08:51

Thanks everyone for the varied comments Confused
Baby is due August so we liked the lean towards Leo/Lion and the prettiness of the name mainly next to our very harsh surname.
I know that Ariel is a Disney mermaid but this is said with a harsh Ari sound unlike the way I'd say "Ariel" washing powder for example... and is it such a bad thing to have a pretty girls name? Hmmm
Anyway the Areola one was the part that was worrying me the most but it's nice to hear others have used it and they are seen as nice little girls Grin
Not all names are to everyone's taste I suppose but some comments are pretty full on with hatred it seems ...!
Decisions decisions
