Girls name shortlist

RedDwarves · 01/04/2018 09:49

Baby is due mid-April, but haven't decided on a girl's name. We have settled on a boy's name.

Our shortlist is:
Arabella
Freya
Annie
Lillian
Lucinda
Seraphina
Tabitha

We have a very common, one syllable surname (think Jones, James), so want something less popular but not too out there.

Any thoughts you have on these names would be greatly appreciated. Smile

I love Tabitha, Lucinda is nice too. Not keen on Annie or Lillian.

YoucancallmeVal · 01/04/2018 10:01

Isabella is a bit flouncy for me and I find the Freya love most odd - it conjures up images of frayed things and I find it a very unattractive name. Seraphina is a bit big maybe. Like the others!

Littlemum2be86 · 01/04/2018 10:04

Tabitha, Freya and Annie are all very pretty for a little girl and would still suit an adult. Think Lucinda sounds a bit middle aged but not in a cute way. Seraphina would never normally be my cup of tea but I actually quite like it. It’s quite long though so is bound to be shortened...what would you have as a nn?

RedDwarves · 01/04/2018 10:06

Littlemum2be28, I think we would call her Sera most of the time, but Sera or Sarah alone with our surname sounds very bland!

YoucancallmeVal, My mum said the same thing about Freya! Might be something to consider.

If you don't want popular lose Freya. Theyre everywhere. Over say the last 5 years or so I've yet to be out and not heard "Freya come here". "Freya, stop it".
Lillian Wether you like it or not will end up as Lily or Lil. I think any one would rather go by Lily. It's a lot pretty that Lillian. On the popularity stakes though see Freya.
Seraphina is too try hard,
Arabella see Seraphina
Lucinda is okay but she'll probly end up as lucy of Cindy
To end on a positive. Annie is fab

ChocolateCrunch · 01/04/2018 10:14

Tabitha is my favourite, but also like Arabella.

AnyaMoondial · 01/04/2018 10:21

I love Lucinda. Fabulous.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/04/2018 10:24

Lucinda is lovely, followed by Tabitha, then Freya.

pimlicolife · 01/04/2018 10:42

Tabitha

NicoleSalski · 01/04/2018 10:46

I like Freya and Tabitha. Think Seraphina sounds a bit like a disease.

FusRoDah · 01/04/2018 10:52

I like Freya and Annie. Lucinda is a bit old fashioned and the rest are a bit 'out there' for me. But it's personal taste!

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 01/04/2018 10:53

Tabitha is my absolute favourite, but they're all lovely.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 01/04/2018 10:54

Tabitha! Ds was going to be Tabitha if he had been a dd.

stellinaa · 01/04/2018 10:57

Love Annie and Arabella, absolutely gorgeous! Also like Seraphina, though have you considered Serena? Personally think it sounds similar but prettier.

Really not a fan of Tabitha though, sounds like the name of a cat or a witch.

HeadingForSunshine · 01/04/2018 11:02

I like Seraphina (dd called her build a bear Seraphina many many years ago)

What about
Daphne
Ophelia
Penelope
Felicity
Harriet
Verity
Henrietta
Hermione

daisypond · 01/04/2018 12:32

Lillian is the one I really like - it's the sort of name that is definitely coming back into currency again.
All your names are fine, though I'm not keen on Annie, as I don't really like diminutives as names. Seraphina and Arabella are a bit flouncy for my taste. I don't get the general Freya love either. Lucinda I quite like. I'm not keen on Tabitha - it has a servant vibe about it - but it's OK.

Muddlingalongalone · 01/04/2018 12:34

Lucinda is my favourite. I also like Annie but would probably use Annabel.

daisypond · 01/04/2018 13:16

Lillian Wether you like it or not will end up as Lily or Lil. I think any one would rather go by Lily. It's a lot pretty that Lillian. I disagree with this. I do like Lily as a name, but I know a few who are now in their early 20s/late teens, including one who is thinking of changing her name to (probably) Lillian, because Lily doesn't have enough gravitas, and is too cutesy for her taste - ie, it's the prettiness that she doesn't like - enough to want a name change. Another two go by their middle names instead of Lily.

Sophronia · 01/04/2018 13:20

Tabitha or Annie (prefer Anna “Annie”)

Smoliver · 01/04/2018 16:41

My favourites from your list are Arabella and Freya.

Thebirthdayparty · 01/04/2018 22:25

Tabitha followed by Annie but prefer Anna.

AdaColeman · 01/04/2018 22:29

Lucinda and Freya are my favourites.

Seraphina is a bit try too hard

Annie and Tabitha are my least favourite.

Duckies · 01/04/2018 22:33

Love Lucinda!

Maowmins · 01/04/2018 22:42

I love Arabella it is pretty & Classy. Personally i am not keen on Freya.

Joeybee · 02/04/2018 01:06

Arabella - Don't think this name flows too well with a one syllable surname.
Freya - A bit plain to me.
Annie - Would go for Anne/Anna/Annabelle and shorten to Annie rather than Annie as a name in it's own right.
Lillian- Love this.
Lucinda - Nice name, elegant, classic, not too popular.
Seraphina - A bit 'try-hard'
Tabitha - Meh.
