Would this name make you think of the tv character?

Ds2 due in a few weeks and we had pretty much set our hearts on Oliver but still go through other options regularly just to be sure.

We have just agreed we like the name Frasier but I'm worried everyone will just think we named him after the tv character. Dp couldn't care less.

What would you think? Middle name would be Robert...

Has anyone ever heard of a Frasier apart from the show character? Everyone will think of the show.

LastNightsMakeUp · 29/03/2018 22:11

I read it as Fraser and thought oh that's a lovely name, why on earth would I think of a tv programme.... then I reread it. Yes after initially mispronouncing his name I would immediately think of the tv show.

Oliver is great. Fraser is also great. I don't love Frasier sorry. Mn is nice and strong.

Sophronia · 29/03/2018 22:35

I would think of the TV show. Fraser is much nicer.

pigeondujour · 29/03/2018 22:56

Yes, at least 99.9% of people will think of the TV programme first. Who cares? It's cute (and a brilliant programme.)

TatianaLarina · 29/03/2018 23:12

Yep I would assume it would be after the character.

Frasier is so like Fraser I’m not sure what the point would be?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/03/2018 07:22

Yes I would.
I really like Fraser/Frazer though, great name.

dingdongdigeridoo · 31/03/2018 15:05

I’d think of the show, but I suspect the next generation won’t have heard of it. It’s not exactly a massively popular series over here.

I also like the name Kelsey, like Kelsey Grammar, but DH vetoed that one.

I like that TV show and it still isn't the first thing that jumps to mind. If you like it go for it.

Enko · 31/03/2018 19:30

I would think of the tv show the first few times but then your ds would just become " Frazier" Thats what happens in my experience as people gets used to a name.

Look at how many Phoebe and Rachels that are out there they don't all get asked " as in Friends" people just get used to it.

It is a fantastic name I love it. Also love Niles.

Thistlebelle · 31/03/2018 19:35

I’m Scottish I know lots of Frasers (called Fraz for short usually) but have never known or known of a Frasier other than the TV show.

Fray-ser sounds much nicer than Fray-shur too.

Enko that’s because Rachel and Phoebe were well known names before the show, just like Joey and Ross.

If you called your son Chandler you’d be asked about Friends by everyone you met.

Enko · 31/03/2018 19:45

Phoebe was not that well known in 1996 it got re populated so to speak due to the tv show. I always found it odd Monica didnt experience the same.

Thistlebelle · 31/03/2018 20:00

Not that well known is not the same as ^only* known for that programme.

I’ll refer you back to my previous point about the name Chandler...
