Aoife Elizabeth/Aoife Betty?

I think we're fairly set on Aoife as a first name, but haven't discussed a middle name. DH has called bump 'Betty' all along so I think it would be fun to use this as her middle name. We have a one syllable, common surname.
Do you think Betty works as a middle name? I figure Elizabeth sounds a bit better, but obviously loses a bit of the original meaning.

I LOVE Betty! Lovely reason too.

Aoife Betty sounds weird to me. Like alphabetti spaghetti. I'd stick with Aoife Elizabeth, personally.

EleanorXx · 28/03/2018 00:54

Aoife Elizabeth

Lifeaback · 28/03/2018 01:02

I like it as it has a meaning to it. It also flows a lot better than Aoife Elizabeth which sounds quite harsh

ladybirdsaredotty · 28/03/2018 05:46

I love Aoife! I like either middle but Aoife Elizabeth does sound a bit like E for Elizabeth. Not necessarily a deal breaker as middle names are not used much but might be worth considering. I feel a bit mean pointing it out but if I've noticed it, others might too...Good luck deciding...Smile

bunnyrabbit93 · 28/03/2018 05:49

I love Betty ! As PPsaid middle names aren't used often anyway x

TheDowagerCuntess · 28/03/2018 06:01

I'm not a fan of Betty at all - however, as far as I'm concerned, all bets (ha!) are off when it comes to middle names.

They're the opportunity to go a little crazy in the way you wouldn't with a first name, and/or to choose a name that has some sort of significance.

So I say - go for it!

HolyShmoly · 28/03/2018 08:48

I'm not a fan of Betty either, which is why I was thinking Elizabeth, but I hadn't thought of 'E for Elizabeth!'
I think we might have a name for our wee baby, just another 11 weeks till we meet her!

(Where she'll inevitably look nothing like an Aoife and, despite the scan, turn out to be a boy!)

Elizabeth flows way better than Betty does with Aoife. Betty is lovely, but just doesn't sound right.

chezmk1988 · 28/03/2018 08:58

Aoife Elizabeth

eloisesparkle · 28/03/2018 09:13

Aoife Betty looks and sounds wrong.
Name her Aoife Elizabeth but call her Betty. Smile

DollyDayScream · 28/03/2018 09:23

Call her Elizabeth, shortened to Betty.

I don't like Aoife, sounds like Either being pronounced by a cockney.

FleurDelacoeur · 28/03/2018 10:03

Definitely, definitely Elizabeth.

HolyShmoly · 28/03/2018 10:06

Aoife is our favourite girl's name by a mile, but thanks for your opinion. We're both Irish and my only niggle with it is that she'll eventually turn her stepchildren into swans.

The Betty/Elizabeth choice is the only thing that I'm indecisive about, although how often do people actually get called by their full or middle names? I don't have a middle name, but I only call DH by his if I'm pretending to be angry at him.

Aoife was one of our DD list names - I love it!

Elisabeth is lovely.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 28/03/2018 10:13

sounds like Either being pronounced by a cockney.
Hmm Have you ever heard the name pronounced out loud?!

my only niggle with it is that she'll eventually turn her stepchildren into swans.

As a previous poster said it reads 'E for Elizabeth', so reminds me of dogs/cats called Deefer/Ceefer.
Aoife Betty doesn't sound great IMO.

MammieBear · 28/03/2018 10:39

Aoife Elizabeth that way she has options

mrsflurph · 28/03/2018 13:05

Love the name Aoife, it's one of my favourites. I think that Aoife Betty flows much better than Aoife Elizabeth, and it's a sweet story behind it. I say go for it! Congratulations x

Freyanna · 28/03/2018 13:11

Sibeal is Irish for Elizabeth, Isabel is too, or I like Beth.

HurtyAtThirty · 28/03/2018 13:18

We’ve got an Aoife, Aoife Maisie Frances.

We had all the comments like ether and E for too.

I love Aoife Elizabeth and you can always shorten it to Betty if you wanted. Are you based in the UK or Ireland? If UK get prepared to laugh at all the ways people try to pronounce it, my fav thing to do these days is wait till they read it and see the mental cogs going trying to work out how to say it hehehe

DiegoMadonna · 28/03/2018 13:22

It doesn't really. The latter is much more like "eve-uh" than "eef-uh".

YourWanMajella · 28/03/2018 13:24

No, it does not. Hmm
