"I once read a book where one of the characters was called Schuyler, and I pronounced it in my head as Shoolyer. It was years later that I realised it was Skylar."

You were right first time, if younare in Europe (look at Poirot films).

You've changed to the US version (often found on Internet sound clips as if it were the original or only way to say it).

It'd not a name I'm wild about, but o think it's better on a girl, and spelled Skyla.

Skylar always looksa as if it's missing a 'k'

zen1 · 25/03/2018 08:22

Reminds me of the space station, Skylab.

MammieBear · 25/03/2018 08:25

Skylar is on of the few "modern names" I like, makes me think of the little girl in wolf of Wall Street that was the first time I heard it.

causeimunderyourspell · 25/03/2018 08:32

This name was on my list - love it!!

MinnieMousse · 25/03/2018 08:37

The actress who played Diana in my all-time favourite Anne of Green Gables adaptation from the 80s was a Schuyler. I'm sure that is no help to you whatsoever but that's what the name automatically makes me think of!

roziedood · 25/03/2018 11:15

Skyla is the most popular spelling in the UK

I prefer Schuyler.

HeartySoup · 25/03/2018 12:39

It’s not my cup of tea. I much prefer Sky.

TempusFugitive · 25/03/2018 13:17

Prefer jusy Skye

PavlovaPrincess · 25/03/2018 13:21

@AuntieStella that's interesting. It was an American book though.

17caterpillars1mouse · 25/03/2018 14:49

I don't like it sorry. It seems like a name a teenager would think was cool and name their baby it with little thought for the child being an adult one day

DuggeeHugs · 25/03/2018 15:05

I'm afraid I'm not keen on it. I know a 6yo girl called Skyler and the name just doesn't seem to sit comfortably.

nandaandm · 25/03/2018 15:58

Having a 7 year old DD, it just reminds me of Paw Patrol.

Oysterbabe · 25/03/2018 16:13

Good Will Hunting here and I'd spell it Skyla.

DamsonOnThisDress · 26/03/2018 00:08

Sorry, not my cup of tea. Skyla especially.

Unless twins 🚹🚺 - call them Skyler and Tyler.

(Don't do that. ) Grin

But if Skylar is what you like and you keep coming back to it then go for it. Diff'rent strokes...

mathanxiety · 26/03/2018 00:26

"All aboard the Skylar(k)!"

At about 00:48-00:51ish

Skylar and Skyla are truly dreadful names.
