Does this name work with our last name?

I love the boys name Luca, but our last name is Hughes.

I know this sounds a bit silly but I'm worried it sounds like "look at yous"

Am I overthinking this?

This is completely hypothetical. I'm not pregnant, just broody Grin

I don't think it's ideal. It also sounds to me a bit like Luke Accuse.

Raggs · 21/03/2018 21:10

Don't love it. Luke instead?

The baby name board was my first step into parenthood - 2 kids later I still love having a nosey Grin

Good luck with any future little Hughes!

Ellieboolou27 · 21/03/2018 21:11

It’s not a great combination and does sound strange when I say it aloud

MikeUniformMike · 21/03/2018 21:12

Luke Hughes or Lucas Hughes is better.
Owen Hughes is the obvious choice.

SomeKnobend · 21/03/2018 21:12

You're overthinking! It's a nice name.

Happyland8 · 21/03/2018 21:13

Luke Hughes to me is like, look yous!

Just a little caveat, I do know "yous" isn't an actual word Grin I'm not enjoying writing it. Haha.

Owen Hughes - nice, I like it Smile but am i missing something? Why is it the obvious choice?

What about Lucas or Lucan.

It is where I am from!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 21/03/2018 21:17

It’s from gavin and Stacey OP

Owain Hughes, and before you ask-no he doesn’t!

GruffaloPants · 21/03/2018 21:24

It doesn't scan very well.

Yous is definitely a word around here! Meaning what you'd think (plural of you). So 'Look, yous" is a possible sentence.

onemorecakeplease · 21/03/2018 21:24

No it doesn’t sound good sorry.

Lewis Hughes?

RavenWings · 21/03/2018 21:27

I hear "look at yous" yes. And yous is most definitely a word where I am in Ireland! Slang, but still.

Happyland8 · 21/03/2018 21:29

It's a spoken word here, but makes me cringe to write it. My mum's a school teacher so some things were absolutely drilled into me growing up. This being one of them Grin

Lucas Hughes sounds better.

LoveInTokyo · 23/03/2018 00:14

I think it does sound a bit weird with your surname. Luke sounds worse because then you’ve got two names of one syllable.

Owen Hughes is nice (but very Welsh sounding).

What about Lawrence (Laurie?) Hughes?
