What do you think about the name Adeline?
It's getting very popular in America and is #79 according to Babycentre.

Pronounced like Madeline but without the 'M'
AD- A -LINE

I'm worried it's a little unheard of and 'out there's. But I like that it's a little more unique than Madeline. Also I like the NN Addy

I really like it. It would be on my shortlist if I ever had a daughter.

Have you read The Thirteenth Tale?

June1966 · 14/03/2018 18:10

I'd like it if it was pronounced Adeleen, but not so keen on Adelin. Adeleen might be 'cool' in the way that Jolene is slightly these days.

TheChippendenSpook · 14/03/2018 18:13

I always thought it was pronounced Adaline, to rhyme with 'mine'.

LoveB · 14/03/2018 18:15

I love it (although thought it was pronounced Adel-eeen) Loved it since I saw the film Age of Adeline!

But DH vetoed sadly

MandaraSugar · 14/03/2018 18:16

I like it pronounced ‘Ad-a-lin’ although I do love the name Madeleine/Madeline (pronounced ‘lin’ not ‘line’ at the end) and think it looks and sounds nicer than Adeline. However appreciate Adeline is lesser heard of.

curiousitykilledthekitkat · 14/03/2018 18:20

I love it.. there's the Blake Lively film with it in!

TheLastNigel · 14/03/2018 18:21

I love it. I lived in Canada for a bit and I knew a girl called Adeline, Addy for short. Really plucky little kid and the name suited her perfectly.

theworstwife · 14/03/2018 18:27

I love it, on my list if I am lucky enough to have another DC

upsideup · 14/03/2018 18:34

I love Adeline, but really dislike Ada that it could be shortened to

Tryingtokeepfit · 14/03/2018 18:36

Oh great, it's liked :-)

Ah yes, I came across it from that movie The Age of Adaline Smile(I think the English spelling is Adeline though not Adaline)

I'm a little confused on the pronunciation now though?
AD-A-LIN ? (Would this be spelled Adelin?)
AD-A-LINE?
AD-A-LEEN? (Wouldn't this be spelled Adeleine?)

I'm confusedGrin

Ad-a-line, I think.

I don't love it, personally.

SoftSheen · 14/03/2018 19:06

I like it.

Would have assumed pronunciation was 'Ad-ell-ine' though.

RockinRobinTweets · 14/03/2018 19:06

I really like it, especially with the nickname Della like in the film but I’ve taken it off my list because I think they’ll be too much confusion over spelling & pronunciation. That is just a personal name requirement!

RockinRobinTweets · 14/03/2018 19:07

There’ll not they’ll!

FairyFantastic · 14/03/2018 19:11

Add-a-line for me (pronunciation-wise)
My dads pick for DC, mainly because of the film.
I preferred Adelaide (on our list) but Adeline is lovely and I've seen it mentioned here a lot recently so others must share your opinion OP :)

MikeUniformMike · 14/03/2018 19:13

I think it's confusing and not pretty

Katurah · 14/03/2018 19:15

I'd assume Adeline rhymes with whine.

How about Addison?

MikeUniformMike · 14/03/2018 19:19

Add-A-line
Add-a-son

Tryingtokeepfit · 14/03/2018 19:32

Hmm DH doesn't like Addison. I like it though.

Interesting to hear one previous poster thinks Adeline is confusing.

i was going to post about the name adelaide and saw your post which caught my eye. love the name adeline, quite unusual but pretty

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/03/2018 20:24

Awful and the nn Addy is just horrible. Sorry.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/03/2018 20:25

Urgh Addison is even worse. Addison's disease for a start.

MaryPoppinsStoleMyHandbag · 14/03/2018 20:29

It was on my list for DD (also due to the same film!) but taken off due to confusion and uncertainty how to pronounce it. Didn’t want to give my DD a name that I may be pronouncing wrong!

Tryingtokeepfit · 14/03/2018 21:46

Mary Poppins I'm afraid about the pronunciation too. Hmmm perhaps it will be a name where she will constantly have to spell it out/correct people too, that would be annoying...

DS2’s girlfriend is called Adeline - rhymes with “mine”. I’d never heard it before he met her. I think it’s quite nice and for me it will always be associated with someone —mad as a box of frogs— interesting Wink.
