My daughter is called gabriella mary amara. For some reason I cant get used to gabriella, i dont know if its too long name for a baby, just finding it hard to get used to. Should I change it or maybe will get used to it? My other daughter calls her ella and is already used to the name gabriella.

How old is she?

PinkLemonade4 · 10/03/2018 10:58

You could call her Gabby/Ella/Rella for short. You must like it to have used it, but if you are really unsure whether you like it, I would change it now.

Gabriella is a good name. It gives your daughter options to use her full name or shortenings, whatever she wants when she's older.

I dont know it just for some reason I cant get used to it, i do love the name gabriella. She is 5 months old.

If you love the name you could just call her 'Ella' for now but leave the full name on BC as Gabriella. Then when she's older she has a name to 'grow into' or have the choice. I know a fair few people that have given their baby the full name but everyone calls them the preferred name ie Charles/ Charlie, Tobias/Toby it's just there to give the baby options.

I think Gabriella is a very pretty name and Ella is a lovely nickname for it. Is there a different name you'd prefer?

5 months is probably young enough if you don't like her name. Do you have another name in mind that you love be more?

bella7687 · 10/03/2018 14:33

To be honest I actually dont have another name in mind, possibly one of her middle names

I never really understand these threads about changing a childs name. You named her months ago, its her name. It's not yours to change anymore. She will know her name, everyone else knows her by that name.
just use a nickname or short form.

MikeUniformMike · 10/03/2018 14:49

Call her Ella with Gabriella just for forms where the full name is needed.

pipilangstrumpf · 10/03/2018 15:19

Why Ella and not Gaby? Ella is really popular.

I like Gabriella but the important thing is whether you do!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 10/03/2018 15:23

I wouldn't change it, it's a lovely name, and Ella is gorgeous !

DramaAlpaca · 10/03/2018 15:39

Leave it as it is. She'll grow into it & you'll get used to it. Sometimes it takes a while for a name to fit, but it will eventually. It's a perfectly nice name.

MikeUniformMike · 10/03/2018 16:11

bella7687, you have posted about this a few times haven't you. I would just call her Ella for now and get over it.
Gabriella is a lovely name but probably isn't a 'cutie baby' name. It's more an elegant woman's name, and your baby will be a woman for most of her life. Look up Lady Gabriella Windsor for an idea of what I mean.

Gaby or Ella are perfectly ok as shortenings, but you need to get over this Gabriella worry or little baby Ella will pick up on it.

Are there any other issues that are troubling you that you might be using this as a focus to dwell on?
