Names of friends Vs baby names.

Basically, since I can remember I've always had my favourite baby names.

When we moved to where we live now I met a bunch of very lovely girls who I have become very close friends with. They are all named my favourite names.

I have a very close friend who's DH works with my DH, their little boy is named my favourite boys name.

My question is, is it weird to name you child a name that your friend is named when they've been your favourite names all along?

Does anyone have any experience of this?

I wouldn't if it was an unusual name but I would if it was a more normal name. That said, DH vetoed Anna for DD as it's his best mate's wife's name.

There are thousands of names to choose from, so I'd try to find a different name to my friend's name.

There must be more than one name you love?!

I think it depends where you are. In some places the idea of choosing a name that is already known in your family/friend/work circle seems to be sheer anathema, whereas in other areas no-one would bat an eyelid.

Wouldn't bother me in the least but I think you should put out a few feelers locally, or see how the friend with the name might feel. Ultimately, as MNers always say, nobody owns a name.

@pipilangstrumpf there are 3 names. All shared by said friends.

My middle name is Louise, its a bit of a family name, my great grandma was called Louise (Lou), then My grandma had it as a middle name as did her daughter, my auntie then me. So it'd have to work with that, which those three names do.

I just don't want it to seem odd and cliched to be naming your kids after people which isn't what Id be doing. Just coincidence.

I would just use the name you like. If you don't, you'll spend your whole life wishing you'd used the name. It's not nice to think this but friends come and go.

If a friend named their child after me I would feel honoured!!!__ Even though I know they aren't naming their child after me they just happen to like the name
