My DP is currently at the 37 weeks pregnant stage and have settled on the name Iris. We have one middle name Alice but are both extremely passionate about a second middle name.

To go before or after Alice?

Callamia · 06/03/2018 22:05

I don’t see the point of middle names if they’re not FOR something. Is there no one or nothing you want to remember or honour? You can be as creative as you like, but i think it’s lovely when your child has a name that really means something important to you.

CALLAMIA - Alice is a very important name for my DP. It's also her middle name. We don't want my DP and baby to have a similar name therefore we'd like the baby to have something different.

ChinkChink: Open to either really. Nothing beats the sense of accomplishment when you've finally found a suitable name.

Hmm

How can you be passionate about (saddling a child with an extra long) second middle name when you don't have an actual name you're passionate about?

Iris Alice.

faugheen · 06/03/2018 22:19

BewareOfDragons: Valid point, this is my first post and I got a little bit excited. I love the name my DP and I have thought of but my own name has two middle names and I would like to carry that tradition forward if we find the right name. We AREN'T doing it for a 'passion' or a 'thrill' just am willing to listen to ideas.

I agree that middle names should have some significance. How about your name, or the name of a female family member you are/were close to? Failing that, a woman from history you admire. Emmeline (as in Pankhurst) would go well with Iris Alice

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 06/03/2018 22:44

I would put another name before Alice to split the twinned ‘is’ sound at the end of both.
Iris Elizabeth Alice
Iris Rebecca Alice
Iris Charlotte Alice
Iris Isobel Alice

I feel like it needs to be a longer name.

faugheen · 06/03/2018 22:46

Closetlibrarian: YES my DP has had that name recommended a lot recently. She LOVES it I'm still not too keen. But she has her ways of getting her own way!

THANK YOU!* Think you're right, long name does suit.

Saying it out loud 'Iris Alice' is a little bit of a tongue twister (to me anyhow) so I would go for a name in between the two (but obvs it's totally up to you and DP!)

Can you give us the initial of your surname maybe to help?

My ideas would be

Iris Fern Alice
Iris Lorna Alice
Iris Beatrice Alice
Iris Eleanor Alice
Iris Marie Alice

faugheen · 06/03/2018 23:00

Mondler: Surname begins with M.

Nice suggestions. I like the name Beatrice, reckon the kids at my school will find that name very 'street'.

Regards, The Machine

Is your partner Florence, OP? Grin

Iris Alice together is a bit clashy together, so I would make Alice the second middle name. The first middle name would sound best if it doesn't begin with a strong vowel or have an S sound in it, in my opinion.

Iris Jemima Alice
Iris Coralie Alice
Iris Bethan Alice
Iris Penelope Alice
Iris Leonor Alice
Iris Naomi Alice
Iris Matilda Alice

faugheen · 06/03/2018 23:19

IVflytrap: Unfortunately not married to Florence, I'm Faugheen 'The Machine'. My favourite racehorse.

Without the ideas from you and others I wouldn't of thought of having Alice as the secondary middle name. THANKS!

The name which sprung to my mind is Iris Dorothy Alice. Beautifully retro! Something solid in the middle sounds good.

I think Iris Beatrice Alice has too many "iss" sounds at the end. You need something a little different for the other middle name.

Iris Ophelia Alice

Yes, you need a longer first middle name, which starts with a consonant.

Iris Demelza Alice
Iris Rosamund Alice
Iris Josephine Alice
