I'm only 25 weeks but starting to think of names for our DS. We have a DD (4), her name is just outside top 20 and we chose it really quickly, but we are struggling for boys names. For context, it needs to work well in German as DH is from Germany and we visit regularly. Names we like:

  • Inigo (would people say Indigo?! And does it matter we're not Spanish?)
  • Sebastian
  • Ludwig
  • Leo
  • Nico
  • Cosmo

Based on the above, any others which we might like?!

My first thought was you’d made a typo and meant Indigo, never heard of Inigo

I like Sebastian or Nico from your list :)

HalfSiblingsmadeContact · 05/03/2018 09:06

I've come across a couple of Inigo s. The small one was nicknamed "Indy". One of them had a high frequency surname; I think it makes particular sense in that situation to go with a less common first name.

Buscake · 05/03/2018 09:08

I just think Inigo Montoya Grin

Elfyn · 05/03/2018 09:08

Inigo Montoya! I like it. I know Ab English Inigo, don’t think it’s an issue.

And I’d assume Nico was a girl - purely based on velvet underground, as that’s the only place I’ve previously heard it

CharminglyGawky · 05/03/2018 09:09

If you go for Inigo, which is a lovely name, you need to be prepared for endless princess bride quotes. Whilst that would be awesome the first few times it I imagine it would stop being funny very quickly!

DullAndOld · 05/03/2018 09:11

Inigo Jones - landscape gardener.

Love boys' names ending in O -

Arlo (I have a nephew called this)
Cosmo (from your list) - fab name

ChocolateCrunch · 05/03/2018 09:17

Jonas
Oskar
Max
Jacob
Elias
Lucas
Felix
Theo

Thanks - I love a lot of these suggestions!

We seem to like names ending in "o". Surname is v obviously German and starts with a consonant so they work well. Arlo is nice but a bit of-the-moment.

I love Princes Bride so am prepared for the "you killed my father" quote Grin.

I love Nico and Cosmo! (Cosmo is the name of my cat actually but I still think it's a cool name for anyone Smile)

I also thought Inigo was a typo for Indigo.. And Sebastian has always been a favourite of mine but it's seems you like unusual/uncommon names so I would avoid it on that purpose alone.

liquidrevolution · 05/03/2018 10:32

Inigo Jones was a very famous Welsh architect. Banqueting house, queens house at Greenwich. Covent garden Etc.

I like it!

TatianaLarina · 05/03/2018 14:14

I know an Inigo and my nephew is Cosmo.

Sebastian is one of my favourite names so I’d find it hard to choose between that and Cosmo. I also love Orlando and Sholto.

Princess Bride is very old now, my kids haven’t seen it.

OhBergine · 10/05/2018 20:22

Two months down the line and I think we are set on Inigo as a first name for DS. None of the suggestions in my OP seem to work as a middle name though...any suggestions? Leaning towards something short and more classic (e.g Inigo Max / Inigo James etc).

Surname is 2 syllables and as mentioned in OP, obviously Germanic.

My boss is called Inigo - it's a fab name.

EspressoPatronum · 11/05/2018 12:05

Inigo Max sounds lovely.

Mrsknackered · 11/05/2018 12:05

I know a non Spanish Inigo, I don’t think it’s a problem.

But, I think Impetigo.

TatianaLarina · 11/05/2018 12:44

I like Inigo Max

Inigo Wolf

KirstenRaymonde · 11/05/2018 12:50

I love Cosmo, use that. Inigo is alright, I know it’s a name. I know a Nico, it’s fine I think sounds like a nickname rather than a whole names
For PP, Nico is definitely a boys name.

OhBergine · 11/05/2018 13:23

Thanks all! We're set on Inigo as the first name, it's just middle names we're struggling with! I really like Inigo Louis. I also like Inigo Max but Max is my exH name which might be a bit odd!

Inigo James is nice, or Inigo George, i like the rhythm of three syllables, one syllable, two syllables, although the pronunciation of George in German would make it 3 2 2
