Rhyming names or potential mish-mash???

We have a little list of names we really like for DD2, but I’m still not totally sure of any of them - I can find fault in each of them.

My Husband loves one name and really wants to use it. I really like it, but my reservation is that the last letter of it is ‘S,’ and the first letter of our surname is also ‘S’. I’m worried about the lack of clarity when saying both names aloud, and the little pause it seems you have to make in between the names to avoid a bit of a mish-mash sound. A few people have said they think it’s fine, but I can’t seem to get over it.

Aside from that, I really like a name, but it rhymes with our DD’s name. Do you think that’s a problem? It also has 3 syllables (DD’s name is 2 syllables long), and my Husband thinks that 3 is too long, but he liked the name initially. The name sounds clear and distinct though with our surname.

We can’t use the name DH prefers, followed by the one I prefer as her initials would be ASS!

Would you use a name that rhymes with your other child’s, or one that might sound like a mish-mash?

I am honestly stuck, and I really don’t know whether to push for the rhyming name.

What would you do?

It's hard to judge without knowing the names but I think I'd rather a pause between first and surname which you'd do any way than matchy kids names.

Example, Agnes Smith rather than Tara and Samara Smith.

I have the same issue. We want Ezra for boy but have an R surname which gives the pause and mish mash sound :(

I'd carry on searching for other names, but at the end of the day, it's your choice. Could you share the names ?

I think if you really love the name you should go with it or you’ll always think what if. How matchy are we talking?

FoofFighter · 05/03/2018 16:44

Depends how matcha. I accidentally named my eldest children with names ending in the same sound but nobody ever pointed it out, neither did I realise until they hit the age I had to yell upstairs to get them down, then thought shit they rhyme...
