Hey everyone, i'm struggling to choose between Daisy or Lily.

Which do you like best?

Daisy is (weirdly) a short form for Margaret - from the French Marguerite I suppose. Instead of Daisy you could have Maggie which I like and is less common.

DreamingOfAHotBeach · 27/02/2018 14:08

Not a fan of either.

I like Lily more than Daisy. Lilys are everywhere, but it is a pretty name.

Daisy is a cow's name, and I've known a nice Daisy.

17caterpillars1mouse · 27/02/2018 14:11

Daisy

The world doesn't need anymore Lily's atm

Mintylemons · 27/02/2018 14:15

Daisy. But only because there are Lilys everywhere.

Do you want a flower name?

Iris
Violet
Viola
Camellia
Rose
Marigold
Poppy.

FuckyDucky · 27/02/2018 14:17

Both quite boring and overused but if I had to choose it would be Lily as Daisy is a cows name or Onslows’s wife.
There’s so many other much nicer flower/nature names out there to choose from if that’s the style you like.

DramaAlpaca · 27/02/2018 14:32

Hmm. I'm not mad on either tbh. Sorry OP.

As a PP said Lily reminds me of funerals and I dislike the flower for that reason. I find Daisy a bit too cutesy & twee. That said someone on another thread recently was looking for suggestions for a middle name for Daisy & people suggested Jane - I thought Daisy Jane was lovely.

So if I had to choose I suppose it would be Daisy.

ChocolateCrunch · 27/02/2018 14:37

Daisy

quinqin · 27/02/2018 15:02

thanks everyone, it's just a coincidence that they are flower names. I also like the name Kitty but was unsure whether it was too informal & don't really personally like the longer versions so thought i would take it off.

Kitty is a million times nicer. So cute but good for an adult too.

pilates · 27/02/2018 16:10

Prefer Lily, Kitty is awful

Mumzywumzy2 · 27/02/2018 17:01

Daisy! It’s classic and feminine

moofolk · 27/02/2018 17:03

Be wary of flower names. A bit too cutesie.

moofolk · 27/02/2018 17:04

Agree about Kitty. Also it's short for Catherine so loads of options.

Evelynismycatsformerspyname · 27/02/2018 17:12

I like Daisy. Daisies are persistent, hardy, deceptively strong, cheerful, unpretentious little survivors that keep coming back, last for ages, as well as being pretty and charming.

A million times better than Poppy and Lilly, both of which have strong associations with death, and Kitty which is a cat or a charming nickname for a child called Katherine or a variety of.

I know Daisy has a history of being used as a nickname for Margaret because of the giant daisies being Margherita daisies, but at least daisies/ Daisy is also something in its own right, not purely a diminutive.

Dontrocktheboat · 27/02/2018 17:16

Daisy.
Loads of Lilies everywhere.
Prefer Kitty though to either - if short for Katherine.

villainousbroodmare · 27/02/2018 18:01

Out of Daisy, Lily and Kitty, I would choose Lily. Over-popular and dull but adult at least.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/02/2018 18:05

Daisy is gorgeous elegant feminine edgy and classic, and It's not massively popular.
Surely the Lily fad is over now.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 27/02/2018 18:11

I prefer Daisy over Lily.

I think Kitty might be too informal - I jusy don't see it as an adult name. Perhaps Katya as a longer version (if you don't like Catherine/ Kathleen/ Cristina/ Katrina)?

rupertpenryswife · 27/02/2018 18:15

Lily from me but I have a Lily. Xx

ItWillAllBeFine · 27/02/2018 18:20

Had to laugh Awwlook at Daisy being "edgy"! There's piles of Daisies round here.

beepbeepsnow · 27/02/2018 18:38

Daisy!

Only know one of those but a thousand Lily’s!

PeonyTruffle · 27/02/2018 21:32

I have an 18yr old sister called Lily. And I have a dog called Daisy.

Sooooo I like them both! But I think Daisy is far less common than Lily is nowadays.

Sophronia · 28/02/2018 02:19

Kitty

jacobsgirl · 28/02/2018 07:42

Daisy 100% reminds me of the great gatsby

useruseruser · 28/02/2018 07:53

My eyes roll in the back of my head every time I see ‘I couldn’t take a grown woman named Daisy seriously’
Then you are the problem. Not the name.
