Middle name

We have chosen to name our daughter Mabel but can’t agree on middle names. Oh wants Kathleen after his grandmother. I have negative associations with the name so suggested a compromise of Mabel Kate instead which I’m not overly fond of either. I’d much prefer to choose another name we like rather than a family name. Any suggestions? Would you go with family name or choose one you like?

A name you both like, or when we had our dd we used my middle name so start our own tradition
May be an idea

I like Mabel Katie

Choose one you like.

Mine have sentimental middle names, or middle names with meaning, but none have family names because I don't like the "tradition" of family names (speaking as someone with family names).

DC1 has the surname of one of our favourite musicians, DC2 the first name of another musician, DC3 the name of a character from a book, DC4 the name of a song.

Ooh, I like this! Intriguing! Smile

My two girls have pretty middle names that we both liked but which have no meaning to us, and my son has his grandad's name as a middle name. No real pattern as you can see! I would just say though that it should be something you both like and agree on so if you don't like Kathleen or Kate then don't use them!

It really needs to be another name you both like.

We avoided family names as middle names because I didn't like any of them. I really couldn't give my child a name I didn't personally like, even to honour a family member.

Funnily enough, Kathleen was one of them Grin I dislike it too, OP.

Our first dd has a nodding tribute to a friend who saved my life and this dd with have a version of DH's mums name as we lost her last year but go for whatever works for you!

Another name you both like. My DCs middle names easily could gave been their first. We avoided family names.
