Emillie to be shortened to Millie?

Just wondering how ridiculous this is? I have always thought name my child what I will call them as in have on the birth certificate what I would be calling child and not a formal name to then call child by only nn but when I think of Millie I like it but for some reason am thinking about in the future (which I clearly didn’t when naming DS and went for what some would call nn) I like Emillie too so would it be ridiculous to call baby Emillie but mainly use Millie?

Is Emillie pronounced differently to Emily or the same?

Is it pronounced E-millie (like email) ?

The same as far as I’m aware. Had a quick google myself and so far it says it’s the same and I thought I preferred that spelling but could do Emily x

I would want to pronounce Emillie differently to Emily.

Millie is a standard shortening of Amelia/Emilia, so I don't see why it can't work as a shortening from Emily/Emilie (French spelling).

Emillee is a silly spelling: Emily is fine.

Or just use Millie.

Yes it works, but Amelia or Emelia would be nicer and more obvious. Or even Camilla. Emillie will be awkward and she’ll always have to spell it. Millie works as a NN for lots of things though.

Yeh I’ve spelt it wrongly, as u say Emilie (French spelling) but it won’t let me change on the original post 🙈!
Just wondered if it’s silly and should just call her Millie if that’s what we will mainly use. I just feel Emily/Emilie is a bit more “official/formal”

I wasn’t set on spelling just was thinking in general and had noticed other people using this spelling and thought was unusual. Just meant Emily regardless of spelling.

Of your suggestions I would go with Emilia as a bc name and Milly/Millie as a nn. Emily is nice but there are so many of them. Emilia is nicer, and Milly is better as a nn for Emilia than Emily.

I’ve seen that but I didn’t like Millicent personally but also seen the other names mentioned with Millie as nn so was curious to what people thought

Emily, Emilie and Emilia are all fine - just don’t spell it with two Ls!

I can see Millie or Mili as a shortening for Emilia but I think if I were called Emilie I’d just want to be called Emilie. It’s a beautiful name, anyway.

My friend did this. Her daughter is named Emily with the intention of becoming Millie.
She is now called Emmy however Millie is more than fine as a diminutive. I think Emily is more of a ‘proper’ name so yes, you’d be covering all bases :)

I know an Emily, nn Millie, perfectly acceptable (and very pretty names)!

I would say no to Emillie though - your DD would spend her life correcting the spelling!

Forgot to say, I think Amelia/Amelie are also pretty names that work with nn Millie...

DS2 had a Emillie nn Millie in his class. In nursery she was Millie and by reception had decided she was to be called Emillie. No one knew who this new mystery Emillie was

I like Emilie more than Emily, and give no fucks about not being French. It’s prettier to my eye. I also like Emilia and Amelia.

The pp who mentioned that, by giving a ‘formal’ name, you also have the option for Emmy raises a good point. I like Emmy a lot. And Millie.

Yeh it is spelt with one L so Emilie. I’ve just misspelt in OP and can’t find an option to change this now.

Haha I lol’d at no fucks about not being French 😂! There is so many ways different names are spelt and I doubt the ppl who use them are always from their origin etc so I wouldn’t care either but suppose it’s the whole having to spell it for ppl constantly. Definitely something about the way a name is spelt that makes it more appealing n to me too it’s prettier to my eye too! Almost feels like a different name.

I like Emmy too so this would also fit! I wouldn’t be against it for nn!

Not 100% set on whole Emily/Amilia/Millie just exploring options! So difficult to find a name that just sticks out for u and feels like it’s the right choice but I have till July to keep going over it in my head lol. Thank you

Emilie is a beautiful spelling. I have a verryyy common name but it's spelt a French way... The French people I have met all think it's absolutely wonderful and always have a big smile when I tell them how my name is spelt. And nobody in the UK has ever batted an eyelid about it. The spelling thing just means I have am icebreaker with people so I like it. I also has a French nickname and it's the same story there.. Always getting compliments on my names!

I'm struggling to settle on a name for my daughter too.. But I think I'll just pick names I like for our shortlist and wait to see what she looks like!

Emilie is a prettier spelling to Emily I think, and would work fine with Millie as a nn.

I am due April, and if a girl, she will be Emilia. Would love Millie as nn, but that's my niece's name, so we are going with Emmy, which I think is pretty too.

My friends daughter was born in 2000. They loved the name Millie but with her being born in the new millennium they thought the name would be over used so they called her Emily. She gets called Em, Emmie and Millie depending on who she's with.

I am a teacher and have taught Emillie (two 'l's) pronounced Emily. I think that's fine. I have known an Emily who was known as Millie. I would pronounce Emilie with a long ee sound in the middle 'Em-ee-lee'. My DD is Millie but I regret not calling her Amelia on her bc.
