Freddie or Gray

Top name at the moment is Freddie.
(After my Grandad - who is alive and unaware of our possible plan to use his name)

But we also like Gray.

No middle name decided but don't think they flow together. Well either way, we will be using Freddie as first or middle.

My other two have very normal names - they have both been in top 10 for years!

My surname used to be Gray. I'm not sure why it's come into fashion as a first name. To me it's OK as a shortening of Graham, but otherwise very 'meh' (not unlike the colour).

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2018 06:50

I don't really like Gray. It looks like a surname and as above I know a few Grahams and it gets shortened to Gray.

Freddie is ok.There were a few Freddie's in DS1's year.

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2018 06:50

Freddies even. It's early! Brew

joystir59 · 14/02/2018 06:51

Freddie is short for Frederick, why not call him that? Gray isn't any kind of name. I think it's a colour in America.

Gray for a boy will easily be shortened to Gay at school.

dancingqueen345 · 14/02/2018 06:59

I know a Grayson (albeit American) who's nn is Gray

BakedBeeeen · 14/02/2018 07:02

Is gray a name??

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 14/02/2018 07:05

Not Gray, please. It's a colour and a unit measuring exposure to radiation, not a (first) name.

Mooey89 · 14/02/2018 07:07

Also if you use Freddie as a middle name and name him Gray he’ll be ‘Gray Freddie’

Why is Freddie Gray? Does he have a stomach bug? Which shade of Gray is he? 50?
Don’t do it.

Alienspaceship · 14/02/2018 07:08

Gray is lovely - short for Grayson?

Oh misread that as Gary and thought it might be making a comeback.
I quite like Gray, but prefer Freddie

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/02/2018 07:15

Freddie.

Gray is drab.

ChocolateCrunch · 14/02/2018 07:18

Freddie, definitely

pipilangstrumpf · 14/02/2018 07:24

Grayson with nickname Gray is lovely.

I'm not so keen on Fred or Freddie.

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2018 07:25

I am old admittedly but Grayson will always be Larry to me. Confused

Gray is just meh.

beela · 14/02/2018 07:26

Freddie, 100%

buzzbottom · 14/02/2018 08:16

I was looking through a website of unusual baby names for boys (honestly some of them were absolutely ridiculous) but a few were quite nice and I knew some children with those names.
I was reading some out to DH as a joke, but when I came to Gray, we actually both liked it. I said it to my friend and she said her DD best friend is called Gray. Not keen on Grayson though.

He did mention the gay thing though!! Which is also why he doesn't like Kit (Tit).
When I typed this post in my half asleep state, I thought I had written Gary, so easily mistaken!!

Frederick is my grandads name but everyone calls him Fred. Freddie just seems softer because I've known my Grandad being Fred as he's in his 70s now!

My DS is called Oliver. So we've got a very popular name.. but he's in year 1 now and still the only Oliver! He is Oliver though, never Ollie. A couple of people have tried to call him it and he will respond "that's not my name, it's Oliver!" haha!

In my mind..
Freddie is 75%
Gray is 25%

OHH well I put my phone on the side and since I don't have my glasses on, it looked like Gay.

Yeah.. i think it may leave the list!!

Definitely Freddie.

I don't like Grey.

It's not a particularly inspiring colour imo. And you probably wouldn't call your child second or ampere, would you?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/02/2018 09:30

Freddie.

MikeUniformMike · 14/02/2018 13:56

How about Gary?

MorningstarMoon · 14/02/2018 14:02

Gray sounds awful. Has it come into fashion because of that bloody film?

Freddie is ok though

buzzbottom · 14/02/2018 14:09

I assume you mean Fifty Shades?
I'm not interested in that at all so definitely not because of that! I would rather gauge my eyes out with rusty spoons than watch it haha!
