Still struggling, girls name

BlackberryandNettle · 11/02/2018 22:10

Posted before a couple of timea. DH is still completely indecisive about girls name and now I'm feeling undecided too. We had agreed upon Katherine but he's gone off it. He's coming round to some earlier suggestions. Any thoughts on these? Would you like/hate to be called any of them?

Zoe
Matilda
Cleo
Helena (love but worry people would mispronounce)
Juliet
Lara

For middle name, open to suggestions, we also like Zara and Sophie but can't use for first name. Sophia is out as clashes with surname.

I love Matila
I also like Cleo but prefer the Clio spelling

Lara is a bit 'wet' imo

I've just seen Livvy on another thread, I really like it

BewareOfDragons · 13/02/2018 19:54

I like all your name options, except Helena oddly.

I particularly like Zoe or Zara since you have an Anna, as I would be amused by covering A to Z. Grin

BlackberryandNettle · 13/02/2018 19:54

Yep love Olivia, nn Liv. The name is so far up the charts though! I wouldn't use just Livvy without a full name. So many nice names but little issues with all of them... Why is it so difficult?!

As an adult, I love Cleo.

I think it would be cool as a teenage girl.

MikeUniformMike · 13/02/2018 20:03

Anna and Kate sound like sisters.
From your list I'd choose Zoe or Cleo.
Lara - nice but sounds a bit cold. lots of L names popular at the mo'
Matilda - no, too overused, Tilda is a brand of rice.
Helena is lovely, but you will hear it said as Hel-aina or Hel-EEna.
Juliet - no. Don't like Jules/Jools.

Anna and Cleo.

safeeuropeanhome · 13/02/2018 20:03

Daisy.

AHungryMum · 13/02/2018 20:04

I like all of those, but I LOVE Matilda and Lara.

Meemzinha · 13/02/2018 20:14

Cleo is my favorite on your list by far!!! My bf vetoed it but it was my favorite.. Everyone else I mentioned it to loved it though!

It's different enough than Anna but just as pretty... both short and sweet!

Based on the other comments.. I don't think people will think of Cleopatra or the car... They'll think of her. (okay, maybe some will for a moment but you know what I mean!)

HeartOfSass · 13/02/2018 20:28

I like Juliet, or as a PP has said, Zara. I think Zara is the perfect bridge between Zoe and Lara. It goes well with Anna and it's less meh (sorry) than Lara.

Or Charlotte? Catherine? Emily? (just randomly throwing girls names in that I think go nicely with Anna and are beautiful stand-alone names)

thegreylady · 14/02/2018 08:26

Mary goes well with Anna

MealyPotatoes · 14/02/2018 08:32

The mispronouncing wouldn’t put me off using the name Helena. People quickly learn.

Redpramlady · 14/02/2018 08:40

I have a soft spot for cleo, think it's rather cool and I wouldn't mind being called cleo, not that I think I'm that cool ha!

Zoe is lovely too, safer option I have positive connotations with the name the one I know is super fabulous

Juliet is very grand, like it, not keen on jules thou so puts me off a bit

Helena I think would have various pronounciations it's not my fav from he list.

sundowners · 14/02/2018 08:59

I find Katherine really plain and boring, sorry. Its a name like Sarah/Claire/Mary/Victoria to me, just completely middle of the road, overused and dull.

Helena is definitely my favorite from your list, its graceful, feminine but not twee and definitely not v overused

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/02/2018 09:28

Helena is lovely, as is Zoe and Juliet, they all go very nicely with Anna.
I don't care for Lara, but do like Laura.

bridgetreilly · 14/02/2018 12:18

In order:
Juliet
Matilda
Helena
Cleo
Zoe
Lara

BlackberryandNettle · 16/02/2018 13:34

Okay I think we have it down to Juliet or Cleo.

Not easy but I think Helena would be mispronounced, also the nn Lena, plus Lara, might blend into all the Lila/Lola/Claras around right now (we know all of these, two of some). Zoe I just don't think is quite as upbeat sounding as Anna.

Love Matilda and it isn’t massively popular according to actual stats.

PinkAvocado · 16/02/2018 13:37

Cleo is too like Clio (the car) for me so by default I’d go Juliet.

daisypond · 16/02/2018 13:51

I much prefer Juliet to Cleo.
Out of your original list, I liked Helena and Zoe.
Matilda is having a moment and will date terribly. Lara is very bland. Larissa is better. My favourites are Helena and Juliet but if you have an Anna already I think Helena is a bit too similar.

PinkAvocado · 16/02/2018 14:09

About 0.27% of babies born were called Matilda last year...

weeone1 · 16/02/2018 14:23

Kate, Eleanor or Alice?

daisypond · 16/02/2018 14:52

Matilda was at number 25 in popularity in the last published statistics (for 2016) and rising. I expect it'll be higher for 2017.

Cosmoa · 16/02/2018 15:19

Cleo!! 100%

InvisibleToEveryone · 16/02/2018 15:33

Cleo Juliet, CJ for nick name.

PinkAvocado · 16/02/2018 16:27

Yes and at 25, that’s the percentage of children called it. It’s easy to think something is very popular just from where it is in the chart but if you look at percentages, even top ten names won’t mean loads of children per 100 called that.
