What girl's name might we both like?

His favourites are Emily, Hannah, Charlotte, Louise and Flora (which I like but feel like we can't use).

My favourites are Francesca, Alma (it's such a "warm" name imo), Leona, Elena (DH doesn't like it for admittedly very understandable reasons) and Selma (DH vetoed it).

TIA :)

Theodora Francesca is lovely.

Or keep it for No2! He might have come around by then.

floriad · 12/02/2018 12:38

Thank you for your help :)

I think we've come to an agreement (and not too soon. We are required to register in the first 3 days after the LO's birth....)

We both like Theodora and "just" Dora (as a "standalone"). Flavia is a maybe.

he would still like to use Flora (but naming the LO after myself seems weird) and I would still like to use Francesca (which would honestly mean a lot to me).

I agree, Theodora Francesca is nice. I think I might try to convince / persuade him... I also like Theodora Claudia (after my mother).

He likes Theodora Fleur.

All of those names are nice but I personally would stay away from first and middle names with the same last syllable. It's a mouthful.

Something like Theodora Isabel sounds better then Theodora Isabella, for example (in my opinion).

How about Orla which is using the letters and sound of your name without actually using the name?

I think that might be why DH likes Dora...

Alicia
Marcia
Sasha
Cara
Tessa
Elsa
Freya

daisypond · 12/02/2018 19:24

Would Lorna be any good? Or Francine?

Mightybanhammer · 12/02/2018 19:37

Love Theodora Francesca. Very grand ( in a good way);and unusual. How about rounding it off withCatherine or Elizabeth?

All sorts of shortening opps and I do rather like Dora. ( i also knew a Francesca called Fraskie but that might sound too harsh.)

Although as a four syllable-er myself, I have always insisted on the full name. For the extra milliseconds it takes to pronounce the full name, can't understand why people insist on shortening it?!

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 12/02/2018 19:56

So out of all your names

Francesca Louise
Theodora Francesca Claudia

Both sound lovely

I'd let DH pick the 2nd middle name if I could just "have" Francesca somewhere in there, tbh.

Francesca Louise DH won't agree to Francesca as a first name...

Theodora Francesca Claudia

That's really pretty :)

I guess we'll just see whether the LO (if female) looks more like a Dora or a Theodora.

Thanks :)

Following as we are trying to find a girls name suitable for English and German too.
Unfortunately husband has vetoed most of my favourites all (pronounced English) so far:

Sophie
Ophelia
Edith
Esther
Tilda
Tessa
So currently working on:
Lydia (But I really don't like the German pronunciation Lüüdia)
Ada

Cockmagic · 13/02/2018 19:17

Joanna?

floriad · 13/02/2018 19:24

I really like Lydia but can't stand the German pronunciation...
And Lidia unfortunately looks misspelled in English (according to DH...)

Ada was actually on my list.
I unfortunately don't like Johanna...

Thanks :)

Oooh what about Marnie?

A lovely soft name that's unusual and classic (in as far as it's Hebrew and was also popular in the Victorian era)

floriad · 13/02/2018 21:37

FeatheredTail

I don't want a first name that ends in y / ie... But thank you :)

But we have our girl's name (which we need. As I said, only 3 days to registed after the birth...)

Anyhow, than you very much, you lovely mumsnetters :)!

MaidenMotherCrone · 13/02/2018 21:45

Leonandra

floriad · 13/02/2018 21:50

I'm not trying to be rude, but is that... well, is that an "actual" name? Blush

Anyhow. The LO's first name will be Dora or Theodora. (and I'm still trying to trade Francesca in exchange for letting DH pick the 2nd middle name...)

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 13/02/2018 22:45

Did you mean Leonora maiden?!

FortyFacedFuckers · 13/02/2018 22:53

Victoria

Potteryprincess30 · 13/02/2018 22:53

@floriad how about Leora? Such a beautiful name i think Smile

floriad · 13/02/2018 23:01

Leora is nice. :) So is Vittoria / Victoria.

I might suggest those (if DH won't change his mind in regards to Francesca Wink).

But anyhow, we seem to have found our girl's name.

Dora or Theodora. Thank you for suggesting that, btw :)

After reading the OP I was just about to suggest my DD's name, Theodora nn Dora Smile

floriad · 13/02/2018 23:35

Penelope

Well, I like your taste Wink

Did you ever think about naming your daughter "just" Dora or were you set on Theodora?

OP posts:
Bouncingbelle · 14/02/2018 01:05

I was going to suggest Monica.

PenelopePickle · 14/02/2018 06:35

@floriad it didn't cross our minds to be honest as we loved Theodora but she's been Dora since day 1.

It would definitely work as a stand alone name and if we were to go back and do it all again she'd probably just be Dora Smile
