What girl's name might we both like?

His favourites are Emily, Hannah, Charlotte, Louise and Flora (which I like but feel like we can't use).

My favourites are Francesca, Alma (it's such a "warm" name imo), Leona, Elena (DH doesn't like it for admittedly very understandable reasons) and Selma (DH vetoed it).

TIA :)

So you need a classic but not that common name?

Yes. Also one that doesn't feel spiky / harsh.

Anna really is lovely. (Although unfortunately still not as nice as Alma imo.)

I also like Anita and Fiona but I'm worried they're slightly dated and more in the... "quirky category".

floriad · 11/02/2018 22:28

I'm afraid I'm not with you on the Fiona/Anita/Alma thing at all OP!

To me, these are not classic. They're kind of 60s, quite depressing grey names. Fiona less so, but the same feel.

How old are you? The 60s names are just starting their comeback, so if you're 30 or less, you'll see names like this in a totally different way to late forties me!

Pamela, Barbara, Gloria are in the same bracket as Anita and Alma to me.

floriad · 11/02/2018 23:17

Yes, 30ies or less. (well, barely "or less" Wink )

I don't really know anymore.

I like Alma, Fiona, Elena, Anna, Leona.

But Idk. DH really likes Hannah and Emily.

Fabia? Flavia? Fiammetta? Nola? Estella? Dora? Sigh.

Anna. And it's close to Hannah.

It's head and shoulders above every other name on your like list, and it's really the only one which is a classic in the sense your DH is ibto.

Mightybanhammer · 11/02/2018 23:28

Alma was a battle in the Crimean WarConfused
I like Fiona very much.
Francesca?

floriad · 11/02/2018 23:32

Mighty

I love Francesca. It even has personal meaning to me... But DH isn't too fond of it.

and it's really the only one which is a classic in the sense your DH is ibto.

Is there an other name ending in A DH might like / is classic enough?

Fox

:) it really is nice, isn't it?

Or maybe Calla?

For me Cara has the edge because I know that tge meaning in Italian is "dear."

I've just googled Calla and it has a lovely meaning too but I didn't know it iyswim!

Both lovely choices. x

floriad · 12/02/2018 00:31

I know that tge meaning in Italian is "dear."

That's actually what makes this slightly "weird" to me.

I wouldn't name a child "dear" either...

But it really is a nice name. :)

Laura is classic and feminine but not too common these days.

Alice? Although it is quite popular.
