Oh dear, sorry but I only know one, he is a horrid spiteful, bully boy - and I can't help associating teh nae with him now.

Carmel206 · 09/02/2018 15:55

the name.

GummyGoddess · 09/02/2018 15:57

@TheFirstMrsDV I suppose that might be considered uncalled for

babybobobear · 09/02/2018 15:58

The two Levi's I've know have both been really naughty kids so I associate the name with them and don't really like it.

TheFirstMrsDV · 09/02/2018 16:01

I think so Gummy
Its fine not to like a name. There are lots I wouldn't chose.
I don't get the nastiness over names on MN.

GeorgeTheHamster · 09/02/2018 16:12

cosmopolitan upper middle class artistic family 🙄

Well thats not callin for Levi is it. Hector or Jolyon or something.

Make sure everyone knows how cosmopolitan and artistic you are.

Belindabauer · 10/02/2018 11:02

I dislike it.
All the Levi's I know are not children I would want as my own and this has obviously tainted the name for me.

SoFancy · 10/02/2018 11:04

Biblical.

Don't get the 'chav' references at all and Bellfield didn't spring to mind until he was mentioned on this thread.

daisypond · 10/02/2018 11:18

I think it's fine. I'd assume Jewish as opposed to generally biblical. I don't think of Levi Bellfield at all.

Notso · 10/02/2018 11:22

I've always liked it and Leroy. Both mocked and rejected by DH and everyone else I've mentioned them too!

I never associate names with killers, I find it really odd that people would unless the child has the same surname too.

Ariela · 10/02/2018 11:24

Jeans.

NapYearStudent · 10/02/2018 11:25

Both Levi's I know are lovely Jewish boys. Levi outside a Jewish context seems to veer toward the likes of Sarah Palins ex-SIL. Tends to used my American with more guns than brains.

Coolaschmoola · 10/02/2018 11:27

I teach many Levi's... I work in an FE college that has some of the most educationally and financially deprived young people in the country as students. They are fabulous, but they are the absolute antithesis of upper middle class artistic.

deptfordgirl · 10/02/2018 11:32

I love it but I know it's unpopular here. I think of it as a beautiful old testament name similar to Isaac, Caleb and Joshua.

AdultHumanFemale · 10/02/2018 11:38

Unfortunately, it seems to be a name I always associate with boys who have struggled with behaviour in the primary schools where I have taught. None of them Jewish, all using the anglicised 'like the jeans' pronunciation. I think it sounds nice, but you might have a few questions to answer from curious acquaintances, with regards to preferred pronunciation and heritage.

Tiredmum100 · 10/02/2018 12:09

There is a boy called that in school with one of my dc. I think of jeans.

1Lara1 · 10/02/2018 23:03

Levi is now in top 100 in UK. But I don’t know what kind of people choose this name....
