Is this combo ridiculous?

DD1 is Holly. Now pregnant and one of my favourite names for a girl or a boy is Robin.

Had always written off the combo of Holly and Robin as just ridiculously festive and Christmassey and that I would never be able to introduce two children as 'Holly and Robin' without ending with a merry 'falalalalaaa-lalaaa-laa-laa'.

Now I am pregnant and we are struggling to find names, I am talking myself round to Robin again.

Aware I am hormonal/nearing desperation with lack of names and so need objective/brutal opinions from the good people of mumsnet!

Hmm I'm sorry but it did make me smile. It is a bit festive! I did know sisters Holly and Heather and always thought that was a bit themey too.

Is Robin for a boy or a girl?

Bless you, its so hard to choose. I would stay away from Robin. I think its a bit risky and you might end up regretting it. Its a great name but the combo is a bit Christmassy. Think about when you sign the Christmas cards?

Would it make a difference if you spelt it Robyn rather than Robin? Less Christmassy in a way. Alternatively you could always have Robin as a middle name.

It's nice to have a theme though, I personally wouldn't think there was anything wrong with it.

It doesn't matter how you spell it, when you introduce Holly and Robin/Robyn a high percentage of people will think 'Christmas'

However, I actually don't think that matters one bit and if you want to call your next DC Robin, you should.

I wouldn't. I think we're drawn to names that we can't/shouldn't use. Like the forbidden fruit.

Have you considered Carol or Ivy? Noel for a boy?

I think it’s fine. I know a Daphne and Celeste and a James and Lily (which makes me immediately think Harry Potter).

I think it's fine if it's a boy, but less so if it's a girl. I don't know why I think that, but I do!

It does scream Christmas theme to me.

My old boss has Holly and Robyn. We asked quite a few times if there was going to be a number 3 called Tinsel or Bauble

G: Erin, Mirren, Fern, Rowan, Pippa, Lucy

The pop star rihannas real name is Robyn (rihanna is her middle name)

It's not just a Christmas at name, look at Robin Williams (it's a unisex name too)

I wouldn’t have made the Christmas connection at all. Your children are separate beings and they will be adults for most of their lives. They presumably won’t always live together, so why would “how they sound when introduced together” influence your name choice? Bizarre! I say go for it.

Lovely. I didn't think christmassy when i read it.tho as someone said if bothers you use it as a middle name. Charlie robin is nice or frankie robin. Natalie robin is nice too.
