Hello!

Okay so our little girl is due in May and I just wondered what people think of our favourite names! (we're in the UK)

  • Kaimana - nn Kaia (currently the front runner, pronounced Kai-mar-na.. Kai rhyming with eye)
  • Azalea (boyfriends fave but I'm put off by Azalea banks and Iggy Azalea)
  • Cleo (just so cute!)
  • Marley (again, just love the name)
  • Pandora nn Panda (the mythology doesn't bother me.. I kinda like the story and it's a great talking point)

Would love to hear opinions! Have a great Sunday Grin

With Pandora I'd be more concerned about the god awful jewellery company.

Cleo is my favourite

Meemzinha · 04/02/2018 10:44

@FlipflopFifi oh yeah I keep forgetting about that! Ugh such a shame they have taken over that beautiful name Hmm

How about Juno?

DuggeeHugs · 04/02/2018 10:56

Cleo would be my choice - lovely name

Meemzinha · 04/02/2018 10:56

@wyes I do like the name! However as soon as I mentioned it I got the 'no way' face haha!

Cleo, but I do like Pandora too

Jenna43 · 04/02/2018 11:06

Cleo

BewareOfDragons · 04/02/2018 11:34

Cleo is the only nice name on that list for a girl.

Marley sounds more like a boy's name. Or a dog's name.

Meemzinha · 04/02/2018 11:43

I'm surprised Cleo is winning and Kaia hasn't been mentioned! Maybe it's the Kaimana part.. But I love the meaning and how uncommon it is.

I expected Cleo to get pet name comments to be honest! I have heard of more Marley's that were girls...

I like Cleo the best - probably because it's the only one I recognise as a name. But I do like Azalea, too - it's valid to use plant and flowers as names, even though it's unusual. I've never heard of Kaimana - unless you've got connections with Hawaii it seems a little odd to use it. I prefer Kaia/Kaya as a name. I don't like Marley. I see it as a dog's name.

Meemzinha · 04/02/2018 12:24

Yeah a few people on a different thread mentioned that. However my boyfriend isn't Irish and has a Irish name.. And I'm not French yet I have a French name and both our names are popular in the UK. So I don't think it's odd in that respect.

And we have a great love for the Hawai'in culture and music. Also it means 'power of the sea' and I'm crazy about the sea!

To me I feel I'd be paying respect to the culture, however I understand that some may not see things the same way. I don't know why. But I know people generally differ haha!

Cleo is lovely !

flybabyfly · 04/02/2018 19:49

I really like Kaimana/Kaia. Especially if it’s meaningful to you and your partner.

SuperBeagle · 04/02/2018 20:52

Cleo is the only one on the list that I like and think is usable.

Really dislike Kaimana and would assume you were either Hawaiian or Pacific Islander.

Don't like Azalea, and both Azalea Banks and Iggy Azalea are negative associations.

Marley is a dog. Or Bob Marley.

Pandora has negative connotations in Greek mythology (Pandora's Box) and the jewellery brand, which isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

RavenWings · 04/02/2018 21:21
  • Kaimana - nn Kaia - I think you could definitely get away with Kaia. Kaimana seems a bit of a ridiculous choice if you've no actual Hawaii connection. It's better if you've at least visited etc, then you can pull it off.
  • Azalea - love it
  • Cleo - it's ok
  • Marley - like the dog, singer or a park in Dublin. No.
  • Pandora - no, jewellery/girl from Adrian Mole books.
Jammycustard · 04/02/2018 21:22

Cleo

LarkDescending · 04/02/2018 21:31

Cleo would be a lovely choice.

HappyLollipop · 04/02/2018 21:37

Cleo is the nicest name on your list.

Meemzinha · 04/02/2018 21:43

Turns out my boyfriend never liked Cleo! I'm sure he said he did a few weeks ago... I swear he changes his mind like the wind!

Still most likely to be Kaimana/Kaia!

But thanks for the opinions Smile

Also welcome to hear other suggestions!

Not keen on any of your names but that's because my taste is much more boring than yours!!!
I know an Azalea, she's a really cool person and she's a model. Although it suits her personality she absolutely hates her name and gets 'Az' or 'Azza' all the time.
