Charlie James for a boy’s name

Further to my last post about having Charlotte Amelia for a girl’s name, we now have to do some more thinking... at our 20 week scan yesterday, we were told to start selling all the girl’s clothes we’ve been hoarding for the past 7 years... we’re having a boy!😝

I’m thrilled he is healthy (although I was hoping for another girl) but as long as baby is ok, that is all that matters.

Now all we need to decide on are boy’s names! First choice would be:

Charlie James

and this could be shortened to CJ.

My DH also likes the name Harley, which i’m not overly keen on. I’m actually quite fond of our ‘silly’ name for our bump which we’ve been using which is Herbert! I know it’s a quite old fashioned name but I do think Herbie and Herb are quite cute nicknames! I’m not sure Herbert James quite goes though...

Any thoughts on these choices? Or suggestions on other boy’s names?

Other ones I really like are Phoenix, Sebastian, and Felix... although I haven’t run any of these past DH yet!

Oh Herbie is so adorable. Surely the Charlie phase is over now. Theyre everywhere.
James is like the male version of May and Grace. It fits with any first name.

HappyLollipop · 02/02/2018 23:26

Maybe he could be Charlie James Herbert? My DS has two middle names, one after my beloved grandfather and the other as my H called my bump after character from Vikings and was adamant we should use it so that thrown in there too Grin

NooNooHead · 02/02/2018 23:27

Thank you for your reply! I do love Herbie and think it is very cute but would worry it would be a name that would stand out as being slightly diferent / odd (although I guess that is better than being too common?!)

I know what you mean about Charlie being over-used - I guess it is something to consider!

I like Herbert.

ChocolateCrunch · 03/02/2018 03:34

I really like Herbie

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/02/2018 05:10

I met a little by called Gilbie, the other day, same sort of vibe. I think it's lovely.

ASplendidMoomin · 03/02/2018 06:42

All are lovely. Charlie James Herbert with the nickname Herbie is sweet. Works when he’s little but also gives him other options when he’s older if he wants. Congratulations!

Loulou0 · 03/02/2018 06:49

I've got a Charlie. I knew when I chose it that it was over-used but I just love it. It suits him and will see him through all stages. He'd have been Charlie if he was a girl!

I think Harley would date really quickly.

Herbie is really cute.

mum2be2boys · 03/02/2018 07:47

I really like Charlie James, it's a lovely name!

Love Charlie James.

Herbie is awful. Harley isn't great.

junebirthdaygirl · 04/02/2018 19:17

Herbert 8s a great name and with James sounds wonderful.

ineedsleeeeep · 04/02/2018 19:30

I love Charlie James, I'm bias though 😁

SumAndSubstance · 04/02/2018 22:15

I actually quite like Herbert! James Herbert was a horror author though so I wouldn’t necessarily do Charlie James Herbert unless you don’t mind people thinking you’re a fan! Herbert James gets my vote or Charles Herbert. I am also not a fan of Harley, though it’s not awful

RavenWings · 04/02/2018 22:19

Herbert/ Herbie is terrible imo. Wouldn't mind it at all as a middle but it fits right into that old man name trend (Albie etc) which I can't stand.
I like Charlie but it's extremely popular if that bothers you.
Phoenix - no
Sebastian - like this one
Felix - too catlike for me, plus I'm not mad on the sound of it
Harley - very similar sound to Charlie but not for me

NooNooHead · 04/02/2018 23:34

Thank you all! I do really like Charlie James but have not thought about the whole James Herbert author thing... I might have to forgo Herbert methinks!

I agree about some of the other names too - Sebastian I still quite like, but am going off a couple of the others.

It wouldn’t bother me so much about Charlie being a popular name. I do prefer Charlie to Charles but we could use Charles as a formal proper name and use Charlie as a nickname.

Some people call our little boy Charles 😡 he's not Charles he's Charlie. It does annoy me!

JumpingFrogs · 05/02/2018 13:07

I've met a couple of little girls called Harley, so wouldn't pick out for a boy.
