Three weeks to go and still undecided on our baby name. I know our names are not to everyone’s taste/an eclectic mix but could you possibly rank them or state your favourite/s please as husband and I have different front runners. No alternatives as we are struggling with our list as long as it is! Middle names negotiable depending on what we pick as the first name. Thank you.

Sylvie
Winter
Lyra
Effie
Betsy

Otis
Orion
Griffin
Wilfred
Idris

FuckyDucky · 02/02/2018 17:07

Lyra
Winter (love both these two)
Sylvie
Effie
Betsy- too cutesy

Idris
Otis
Orion
Griffin
Wilfred- sounds like he’s 90.

FuckyDucky · 02/02/2018 17:08

unicornberry We obv have very different tastes in names and so should never have children together Grin

Whatsmymethod · 02/02/2018 17:09

My favourites are Sylvie and Wilfred.
Lovely names

Unicornberry · 02/02/2018 17:09

@FuckyDucky Grin

ShowMeTheElf · 02/02/2018 17:09

Like them all equally, except Idris (only heard of one and presumably you aren't naming your child after an actor) and Orion because it makes me think of a cat...there must be a cat in a film called Orion I think.

weebarra · 02/02/2018 17:10

Otis and Sylvie

SummerRoberts · 02/02/2018 17:11

My favourites from your lists are Wilfred and Winter. In fact I would call my own children either of those names.

RavenWings · 02/02/2018 17:12

Sylvie - prefer Silvia but it's nice
Winter - no. Not as a first name
Lyra - love it
Effie - I think it's pretty but a bit insipid.
Betsy - a farmyard animal name imo.

Otis - nothing wrong with it but personally not keen
Orion - I like it in theory. Would be too notion-y for me to use myself though
Griffin - no
Wilfred - oh god no
Idris - best by a mile. Love this name.

ObiJuanKenobi · 02/02/2018 17:12

Winter and Wilfred are lovely

mum2be2boys · 02/02/2018 17:13

From favourite to least favourite:

Lyra
Betsy
Sylvie
Effie
Winter

Idris
Wilfred
Otis
Griffin
Orion

marmitecrumpets · 02/02/2018 17:13

Betsy Winter

becca93 · 02/02/2018 17:15

I love Betsy and Griffin. I think Orion might be a cat in men in black?

TeddyIsaHe · 02/02/2018 17:16

Love Sylvie! As pp keep reading Orion as Onion, so probably out.

Wilfred or Otis for boys.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 02/02/2018 17:16

My favourites are Betsy and Otis.

ObiJuanKenobi · 02/02/2018 17:17

Oooo @marmitecrumpets that sounds really good actually!! Yes, Betsy Winter is fab!

cosmonautkitten · 02/02/2018 17:18
  1. Lyra - gorgeous name!
  2. Effie - cute but adult friendly
  3. Sylvie - never met a bad one
  4. Winter - eh
  5. Betsy - pet name
  1. Wilfred - classic, good choice of nns
  2. Idris - lovely
  3. Otis - fine but a little doggy perhaps?
  4. Orion - I do like the name but as a PP mentioned reads like onion!
  5. Griffin - too American for me
SallyLockhartsDog · 02/02/2018 17:19

Winter for girl or boy. Love love love it.

SallyLockhartsDog · 02/02/2018 17:20

I also love Idris.

Effie and Lyra are nice.

FunnyBunny9088 · 02/02/2018 17:20

Lyra is lovely, pretty and sound professional when older.

Idris or Wilfred (Will) for short.
idris - would think naming it after the actor.
Smile

HappyLollipop · 02/02/2018 17:22

Effie and Idris are my favourites off your list with Betsy and Otis a close second.,

PinkAvocado · 02/02/2018 17:27
  1. Lyra - love
  2. Winter - I actually don’t mind this even though initially I thought no
  3. Effie - I don’t think I’d like to be called something so cutesy and diminutive sounding as an adult but cute for a toddler
  4. Sylvie - ok
  5. Betsy - we had a pet called this so not for me
  1. Otis - great name. Different without being odd
  2. Idris - nice
  3. Orion - constellation link too strong
  4. Griffin - Peter Griffin. No.
  5. Wilfred - really dislike
rogermooresfifthwife · 02/02/2018 17:27

I love Winter (heroine in my favourite book!) and Wilfred. I really wanted Winter for my daughter but chickened out.

IVflytrap · 02/02/2018 17:28

In order from favourite to least:

Sylvie, Lyra, Betsy, Effie, Winter

Idris, Orion, Wilfred, Otis, Griffin

Winter or Griffin would work better as middle names than first names, in my opinion.

Namechangeuser · 02/02/2018 17:42

Effie & Otis
