Too matchy?

We currently have a dd called Tana already (pronounced Taahhh-na) but looking at Aria/Arya for a second dd. Do they sound too similar or does it work?

How do you think they sound too similar? I'm not with you.

stressedoutfred · 30/01/2018 16:33

I wouldn’t say they’re similar but are abit of a mouthful together, sorry. Pretty names though!

MaryWortleyMontagu · 30/01/2018 16:36

Are you pronouncing "arya" as ar-ya (which is probably quite similar to tana) or ar-ree-ah?

SleepingStandingUp · 30/01/2018 16:37

I get what you meant you mean
tA Na
Ar I A

But if you like them its fine. They're not that similar

MikeUniformMike · 30/01/2018 16:37

Tana is nice but I'm not keen on Arya. Aria is better but it's a bit, um, musical.

Both names are similar in having ah sound in first syllable and ening in a. I'd do for something else.

alotalotalot · 30/01/2018 16:39

Very difficult to say together. A bit tongue twistery.

LadyPug · 30/01/2018 16:41

Yeah it’s the ahhh at the beginning and the a at the end. I would pronounce Aria ahhh-reee-ahh. I do like it but not sure if it will work

How about s l something like Arianna?

LadyPug · 30/01/2018 17:05

Thank you sleeping I don’t like it! :-( I’m so fussy, don’t like many names at all!

I wouldn't use Aria then LadyPug. Do you like Anya or Maria?

MikeUniformMike · 30/01/2018 17:13

I'm not keen on Arianna either. It looks pretty but is a bit mumsnetty as in 'we like the name Arianna nn Harry' or something.

LadyPug · 30/01/2018 17:20

I like Elodie but think it will be too popular

OP posts:
Bobbybobbins · 30/01/2018 17:24

Love Elodie and I don't think it is that popular

MikeUniformMike · 30/01/2018 17:32

Elodie is getting popular. It's at the stage now when people still think it's unusual. Another 'we like the name Elodie nn Ellie' one I'm afraid.

Chocolatecake12 · 30/01/2018 17:37

I think it’s too similar because there’s too many a sounds.
How about
Tana and Kate or Katy
Mabel
Poppy
Pippa
Lois
Faye
Nancy

mondler · 30/01/2018 20:31

I like Elodie - I don't know any young ones.

SwinginFromTheChandelier · 30/01/2018 22:14

Aria is getting very popular much more than Eloise is!

You can thank GOT for that!

Joeybee · 30/01/2018 23:36

I don't think those names are too matchy at all, I think you're overthinking it.

Talou7 · 31/01/2018 03:22

I think Aria sounds lovely with Tana and not too similar at all. I definitely think the Aria looks prettier than Arya, which I read as 'Ar-ya' rather than 'Ar-ee-a'. Aria is top 20 in the UK if popularity is a concern.

LadyPug · 31/01/2018 15:42

Thanks Talou yeah I think top 20 is slightly too popular, for some reason I thought it was around 50! Maybe Elodie then instead as less popular (hopefully!)
