Middle names

We love the middle names we gave our first two - they are mash-ups of our parents names: our dayghter’s middle name is Marianne, after our moms, Mary and Ann; our son’s is Christian after our dad’s, Chris and John.

We have twins on the way and no earthly clue what to use for their middle names! If we go up a generation, we’ll end up hurting someone cos we can’t use everyone’s names. We’re not gone on using our siblings names.

Anyone in a similar situation? Got any smart ideas on where we go from here?!

Christian from Chris plus John is a bit of a leap so I'd look to prioritise John.

You could use more than one middle name each.

You could look wider, to professional mentors or lifelong friends.

You could ask your family to get over themselves Grin

Do you know whether you're having bb, bg or gg? Are you planning any more children after this pregnancy?

Jonathan
Jack
Kit

Annabel
Molly/Polly

Where's the John in Christian???

I think John is nice as a middle name.

You can still honour your perents with the twins, you could use Christopher, Crispin, John, Jonathan and for Girl's Marie, Maria, Annabel, Annemarie. If not how about your names as middles or just initials or initials of the children you have already or use their names as middles? Lots of options I'm sure you'll find the right combination for you. Good luck

It was John that suggested Christian! Chris-John = Christian, kinda. He’s perfectly happy with it.

I'm still not completely following the Chris + John = Christian logic, but as long as you and he are happy with it.

Personally I would look at a variation of John for one twin. You could do virtue names. You could do the middle names of your parents or siblings. You could choose the name of someone you admire.

Perhaps just tick family names off as “done”now and go for middle names you like?

Or something like James. Everyone has a James in their family.

There’s two pronunciations of Christian.

I’ve been married to both of them; so I can say with some authority that my ExH pronounced his name as Chris-Jen, whereas DH is pronounced Chris-ti-an.

So Chris-Jen sort of = Chris-John.

I get you OP 👍

JacintaJones · 29/01/2018 22:30

Use a variant of yours and your DHs names as middle names?

MikeUniformMike · 29/01/2018 22:51

I say Christian as sort of Crisd-yun.

Use a middle name you like.
