Hi all,
I really like the name Seren (pronounced like the beginning of serendipity not serenity if you know what I mean)! I know it's Welsh and I am Welsh and I know it's popular in Wales now. But we have no plans to move to Wales. Do you think it's a nice name that's not too common in England? What do you think of it? (Her brother is called Dylan and her middle name would be Evelyn if that makes a difference). Thanks! x

I love Seren and suggested it for my DD but DH said no ☹️

I love stars (I've actually named my Dog Star) so this was like the acceptable human name! 😂

LexieLulu · 29/01/2018 16:14

I'm not welsh (well actually my mum was born in Wales) but I would still use it!

SummerRoberts · 29/01/2018 16:16

Seren is really lovely.

Now I feel like I pronounce either serendipity or serenity wrong though as I pronounce the start of both those words exactly the same Grin

MargotMoon · 29/01/2018 16:16

I think it's nice, unusual

MikeUniformMike · 29/01/2018 16:17

It's a recent Welsh name and I think it is probably not very popular with native Welsh speakers. It goes well as a name for Dylan's sister.

MammieBear · 29/01/2018 16:18

Lovely name

lizzlebizzle33 · 29/01/2018 16:20

I really like it but I'm not sure it goes with Evelyn as a middle name? I love that name too though, maybe the other way around? Evelyn Seren.

Faintlinesquints · 29/01/2018 16:22

Lovely name, but now I'm thinking the same as summer and saying Serenity and Serendipity out loud. I pronounce them the same. Is serenity pronounced ser-EE-nity? And ser-en-dipity? Or am I just being dipity?? Grin

MikeUniformMike · 29/01/2018 16:23

Serenity has the stress on the 'ren' part.
Serendipity has the stress on the 'dip' part.

Seren sounds more like the Seren part of Serendipity.

CatherineUC · 29/01/2018 16:34

Ha! Yes, that's how I pronounce them Mike. Thank you for your responses. I had considered Evelyn as a first name lizzie, but DH doesn't like it enough. I have always liked Seren since I first heard it and out of all the girl's names I've heard, I think this one sticks out for me the most and I haven't personally known anyone with a child of that name (which helps when you work in a school)! ;)

Love love love it. Gorgeous name

ChocolateCrunch · 29/01/2018 17:05

Love it

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/01/2018 19:21

Beautiful, lovely names !
I have a Dylan.

daisypond · 29/01/2018 19:26

It's nice.

SuperBeagle · 29/01/2018 22:57

Seren is lovely. I don't think it "goes" with Evelyn as a middle name though.

MikeUniformMike · 29/01/2018 23:16

It's ok with Evelyn if you say Evelyn as Eve-lin but not as nice with it said as Ever-lin. I think Eve would be better.

Wib, pronounced Weeb, would be a good middle name Wink

Meemzinha · 04/02/2018 14:37

My boyfriend went to college with girl called Seren and when he mentioned her the name really stood out to me! I think it's beautiful.

I think because we're all part of the UK it's not that unusual.. However I don't see an issue with using names that don't relate to your heritage. I have a French name and am from the UK and nobody has ever found it weird. French people have only ever been delighted to hear my name!

tumpymummy · 04/02/2018 14:59

I really like the name Seren and if you have Welsh connections then it fits even more. Plus I love that it means 'Star'. I already know a Dylan and Seren so they obviously go together. Don't like Seren with Evelyn though I'm afraid - doesn't work together at all. And prefer Seren over Evelyn.

pilates · 04/02/2018 15:05

very nice

Snowysky20009 · 04/02/2018 15:44

Ds1 (18) was going to be Seren if he was a girl. It's very popular around my way (wales).

Daffydil · 04/02/2018 15:51

I love it, and would have used it except there's already a Sarah in the household, and I thought Sarah and Seren would be too confusing.

Lilsquish · 04/02/2018 15:53

Its a lovely name

Meemzinha · 04/02/2018 15:56

You hear the word 'never' when you say Seren Evelyn... It Just doesn't roll very well.

gwdihwfach29 · 05/02/2018 18:11

When is your baby due?
If it is a summer baby Seren Haf is lovely. As you know Haf is summer in Welsh.

CatherineUC · 08/02/2018 17:04

Thanks everyone. I have a few more name ideas for middle names, such as Lara, Bethan, Aria, May/Mae, but I'm not sure which goes best with Seren? She's due in about 3 weeks!
