Elizabeth?

Tell me your thoughts on Elizabeth. DH and I are going around in circles trying to find a name for dd3 (we have fairly traditional names for our other dd's.) DH really likes this name (it was the name of his late mother), I am hoping it will grown on me too (I do quite like Eliza) but I think it is the beth bit that I find a bit grating. Any other suggestions please...I know there are plenty of shortened nicknames for Elizabeth too.

Love it. It's classic yet can be shortened to so many things plus you have a family connection.

TeddyIsaHe · 25/01/2018 21:40

Love it! Its dd’s middle name so only slightly biased Grin I absolutely love Libby as a nickname, I think they’re both classic and beautiful names, so work well.

Cat2014 · 25/01/2018 21:41

Love it. I know an Elizabeth aged 10 and her name is never shortened.

OverTheParapet · 25/01/2018 21:43

It's a lovely name! Made me think of this meme I saw yesterday Grin

I am one. It is a great name. Already said but loads of options for shortening. Liz, Lizzy, Lizzie, Eliza, Ellie, Libby, Beth, Betty, Betsy, Bet. (Yes, I know some of those are not good! But choice is...)

Bitsandbobsalot · 25/01/2018 21:45

It’s on my list as it’s beautiful and classic but I’m a little worried that Kate Middleton might use it and it become very popular. That probably sounds daft but I have already have a Charlotte (16). I’ve been toying with Elizabella or Elizabelle too just for something a little different.

MonumentalAlabaster · 25/01/2018 21:45

Our DD2 has Elizabeth as her middle name.
DH's mother was Elizabeth.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 25/01/2018 21:46

IMO it is the most classic if all girls names

Love Eliza too

Muddlingalongalone · 25/01/2018 21:48

I love it. It's my middle name so would have been weird to use for my dd's.
Beautiful as a full name but endless nn options.

MikeUniformMike · 25/01/2018 21:49

you could call her Eliza. It's lovely and would honour your MIL.
You can shorten Elizabeth to Lizbeth in speech.
Lily, Bess and Elsie.
are also short for Elizabeth.

GreyGardens88 · 25/01/2018 21:49

Sorry but it just makes me think of Liz from Corrie

Hopinthescotch · 25/01/2018 21:54

Elspeth, elisabetta, elisabeth if you want different language derivations

Tara336 · 25/01/2018 21:56

It’s lovely and there are so many pretty ways. To shorten it if you want too

Lavenderdays · 25/01/2018 21:59

DH doesn't think much of Eliza but I think my preference would be to put Elizabeth on her birth certificate but call her Eliza (I know Eliza is a name in its own right). We have had so much difficulty finding a third girls name we can both agree on, first and second time, no problem! I think the shortened Betty is cute too!

I like it, but if you don’t then find another in case it doesn’t grow on you! What was DH’s mum’s middle name?

Lavenderdays · 25/01/2018 22:01

Other names on the list included Georgina/Georgiana and Josephine (DH not so keen on Josephine).

I forgot Lisa.
Betty and Betsy are nice and Elsie is getting popular.
I quite like Bet.

LadyGAgain · 25/01/2018 22:04

Elizabeth is just beautiful.

covgal1983 · 25/01/2018 22:07

I like it spelt with an S (Elisabeth) - I think it's German. Something soft about it somehow! I know someone who then shortened it to Lis which I also thought was nice.

Auntpetunia2015 · 25/01/2018 22:09

Covgal1983...that’s what I do!

Lavenderdays · 25/01/2018 22:16

Wow, didn't realise Elizabeth was so popular! Going to have to put some serious thought to the name I think.

The Elizabeths I know have sisters called Alana, Nicole and Amelia. Do any of those work for you?

MikeUniformMike · 25/01/2018 22:27

It's Elisabeth in Scandinavia and sometimes in Wales.
I love the short form Leusa for a Welsh-speaker. It sounds a bit but not quite like Lisa.

IrregularCommentary · 25/01/2018 22:27

Another with a dd who has it as a middle name.

I love it. Classic and beautiful.

Glumglowworm · 25/01/2018 22:40

I love it! My favourite nickname for it is Libby but there’s so many possibilities
