Elizabeth?

Tell me your thoughts on Elizabeth. DH and I are going around in circles trying to find a name for dd3 (we have fairly traditional names for our other dd's.) DH really likes this name (it was the name of his late mother), I am hoping it will grown on me too (I do quite like Eliza) but I think it is the beth bit that I find a bit grating. Any other suggestions please...I know there are plenty of shortened nicknames for Elizabeth too.

I know of a baby Elizabeth. It’s a beautiful name I think. Her parents call her the full name.

Newmummy87123 · 27/01/2018 11:18

I prefer Libby or Eliza if you did shorten it

EleanorXx · 27/01/2018 12:13

Love it! It’s my newborns name. Her nickname is Beth

Nifflerbowtruckle · 27/01/2018 12:18

I know someone who occasionally calls there daughter lilibet as a nickname for Elizabeth.

Viviennemary · 27/01/2018 12:23

I really like this name. It sounds lovely and is a classic. And lots of shortforms if you or DC wants to use one.

Halfdrankbrew · 27/01/2018 12:34

I love it, it's my little girl's middle name, she was named after my nan. I sometimes think I should of had it as her first name and chosen a shortened version as a nick name. I didn't in the end but it was mainly because one of my relative's had already named her little girl one of the less common shortened versions. If she hadn't I'd have seriously considered it.

Emily...I'm not sure that it is not because I don't love the name that I have had reservations - I think it is a lot to do with the fact that I haven't come across the name all that often but when I say it out aloud, I think that is a really lovely name. It didn't even come across the radar until dh mentioned it. Lilibet is cute!

Just curious - if it's your DD1's middle name would this DD be put out by you recycling a sibling name rather than coming up with something else?

Lavenderdays · 27/01/2018 16:16

Hi Bored, No, we have discussed it with her...she's a bit jealous because she thinks it is a lovely name - better than her own but then I explained to her she had first dibs in the name stakes and she too, has a lovely name. Both dd's have two middle names and we certainly wouldn't duplicate the second middle name - it relates to dh's and my name combined, so it is unique and special to her x

I love it.

kaytee87 · 27/01/2018 21:52

It's lovely. I like Elise and Beth.

Plumes · 28/01/2018 17:16

I really dislike the name Elizabeth, I just find it ugly, although some of the shortenings are nice enough.

MonumentalAlabaster · 28/01/2018 18:46

The only Elizabeth I've ever heard shortened to Lilibet is the Queen! I believe this is what she was called within the family as a child

Lavenderdays · 28/01/2018 19:20

Plumes...Interesting...what do you class as a pretty name? Just curious as obviously still milling over names and everyone's take on a pretty/ugly name is different.

I have a 20 year old Elizabeth - she's always been Lizzie or occasionally Eliza. I didn't consider it to be a family name until my dad pointed out that there are three in the extended family, but each goes by a different variation of diminutive.

drinkswineoutofamug · 28/01/2018 20:59

My friends daughter is called Elizabeth, but they spelt it with an S , Elisabeth. Beautiful timeless name

RavenWings · 28/01/2018 21:03

I'm with Plume, Elizabeth is one of my least favourite names. I just don't find it appealing as a sound and as a name it's very dull - but then I don't like most of the traditional English names like Harriet etc. I like names like Carmen, Laurel, Saoirse, Maren, Bryony, Melissa, Farrah, Rosalie, Riona.

RavenWings · 28/01/2018 21:07

Having said that I like Libby (would use it with Liberty though). I also love Eliska (have seen it written as Elishka) which is apparently a Czech diminutive of Elizabeth. Probably a bit of an odd choice if you don't have Czech connections, though.

Lavenderdays · 28/01/2018 21:43

Raven; it seems we have exact opposites in taste for names - the only one I like from your list is Laurel - perhaps we grow to like certain types of names but it is a good thing that we do for variety sake.
nc1984 not keen on Liz but I do like Lizzie x
I was not asking Plumes to create a negative debate...I wonder if Plumes likes similar names to Raven - it really is O.K for people to have different preferences.

Elizabeth is beautiful and I met the cutest little girl called Betty recently. She was so lovely and it really suited her.

NewYearNiki · 28/01/2018 23:55

Elizabeth is absolutely beautiful.

The name of two of the most famous monarchs in history.

Plenty of nn potential.

Re Kate Middleton, would she really name a dd after the current monarch?

NewYearNiki · 28/01/2018 23:55

I would totally plagiarize the Queens nn of Lillibet for her.

Lavenderdays · 29/01/2018 09:45

I don't think Kate Middleton would name a dd after the current monarch; I think she would leave it clear for future monarchs - could be wrong of course.

Our DD is Elizabeth, nn Betsy (or Betsy Boo at home), we’ve had lots of compliments on her name and I am glad that we have chosen something classic that can suit her throughout all stages of her life. Her best friend is also an Elizabeth, nn Beth.

Lavenderdays · 16/02/2018 15:43

Thanks Dino...yes, I think we are almost certain now that dd3 will be named Elizabeth...when others say the name, I think how pretty it sounds with nn. Betsy or Lizzie x Your DD has a lovely name! x
