Girls names. Really no ideas!

We are having a girl and really struggling with names. We were both so sure it was going to be a boy and we would name him after my grandpa but now have no ideas for girls!
We like tradition names that can be shortened but don’t want anything too old lady like. I like the name Anna but would prefer to have a longer name shortened to that. DP already has an Isobel so I think Annabelle is out.
DD will have a Scottish surname (a Mc) and I am Scottish so something that fits in with that would be good. But nothing too twee!
Any suggestions for the two most hopeless decision makers in the world would be great!

What was your Grandfather's name? Was it something that you could use the female form of the name e.g. Charles - Caroline or Charlotte, Alexander/Alistair - Alexandra, John - Jane, James - Jacqueline etc?
I much prefer Anna to Annabel, and I don't like the Annabelle spelling.

ARichVernacular · 25/01/2018 15:52

Annalise
Josephine
Katarina
Olivia
Meredith
Rosalind

Seabiscuit1 · 25/01/2018 15:59

Some great suggestions here! And ones I hadn’t thought of and like.
Imogen is nice. Can we have an Immy and an Izzy though?
I really like Rosanna but asked DP and he isn’t sure as he had a dog called Rosie. Seriously?! He is worse than me.
My grandfather’s name was Tom and we aren’t really keen on Thomasina which is a pity. Although I think just an excuse to have another baby.
Olivia is one of my favourite names but worried about the popularity.

Annalise or Annaleigh?

I'll throw Grace in there too. Was the name I'd have chosen if I'd had a girl. I had a boy in the end Grin
I was the opposite to you. Had the girls name sorted, couldn't think of a boys name.

I was going to suggest Isla, but it might be too similar to Isobel?

BabloHoney · 25/01/2018 16:07

Anna is lovely! Could maybe short for -

Arianna
Vivianne
Rhiannon
Joanna
Marianne

GlorianaBanana · 25/01/2018 16:08

Annabeth
Anastasia
Christianna

I like annalise. Very pretty. Grace is lovely too. Lots of options here.

I actually think Isla and Isobel could work. They are a different sound but go together nicely.

I like Vivianne and Joanna. Again two that I hadn’t thought of before.
Annabeth is pretty and unusual. I like it.

Beatrice/Beatrix for Bea or Trixie?
Annabelle
Elise or Eloise for Ellie
Abigail

moreismore · 25/01/2018 16:26

If I ever have girl twins they are going to be Isla and Isobel! I love how the names sound together. I also think Isla is a bit less popular than it was a few years ago if that concerns you... or how about Iona?

Annabelle4 · 25/01/2018 16:29

I think they're beautiful together (my dd's have similar names), but I regularly see that criticised on this site, even if the names don't actually sound alike.

TatianaLarina · 25/01/2018 16:29

Iona, Ayr, Skye, Jamesina, Laoghaire.

My grandfather’s name was Tom and we aren’t really keen on Thomasina which is a pity.

Tamsin is a form of Thomas too.
Iona depends on your surname.
Isla - lovely but too popular
Olivia - no. too popular.
Immy and Izzy are a bit too alike.

Annika

If DS has been a girl we would have picked Eilidh. I also liked Abigail.

Our DD is Leah.
