Day/Month/Season names

I ponder this quite often (god knows why but I do). Is it weird to use a more uncommon name such as Tuesday/Sunday/January/Winter when the child isn't actually born on that day/month/season? Or is it infact twee to name them after the actual d/m/s they were born?

I think April, May and Summer are so mainstream I don't think anyone notices but would an Autumn born in the spring or a January born in the summer be cause for comment? Or the opposite (i.e oh how original, an October baby named Autumn- eyeroll ?

Or, as I suspect, nobody actually gives a hoot what anyone else names their baby. I'm not even pregnant I just love the name Autumn!

However imo. It's fine to call a baby born in January April as that's when she would have been conceived, or even if you got married in April, it would be a nod.
However if you've nothing to do with the month, then. Yes its odd.
However I'm sure many will disagree

I'm 40 weeks pregnant and am pretty sure we are going to use Autumn if it is a girl. Sometimes I don't think I'm brave enough. I don't think it matters if it's not that exact time of year. Does it? I'll watch your replies for a more helpful answer to your question.

I don't think it's weird although I admit I eye roll a bit when a December born 'Holly' is announced.

I've just checked and Autumn Kelly was born in May!

Oh gosh, please no. Why would you link a child's name to when their parents got jiggy?! How embarrassing as a teenager and even onwards - I know a Noelle who was born in September and named for when she was conceived. She constantly gets asked "were you born at Christmas?" and is faced with explaining. Everyone knows that obviously each human person was conceived - most in the traditional way. Nobody needs to be reminded of it in their name.

Lola I've just realised that friend of mine has an Autumn born in June and actually I don't think anyone has said anything!

Autumn is a gorgeous name! and the best season! hmm, not sure whether you'd 'have' to have an baby born in autumn though. there's the name rain- you wouldn't assume it was raining during the birth. Or sunny...

i think if you like then it doesn't matter about the reasons behind using it

I have a friend called Tuesday, it really suits her. She's named after the actress Tuesday Weld I believe, but the number of times she's asked 'were you born on a Tuesday then?'... it's just painful. She wasn't born on a Tuesday.

One if my daughter's middle name is May. We chose it as she was due May 15th. She was early and born in April. She loved telling the story though when she was little.

I really like the name 'June' and have googled this question a few times. It seems a different answer on every message board - half say only if born on that month/day the other half say as long as they aren't born on that day as its silly. Can't win!

I'd say if you love it and it feels the one then go for it. People will soon get used to the name and it will become his/her name regardless of birthday.

I considered Wednesday for DD2's middle name. After Wednesday Addams.

I know loads of older Mays and Junes, none of whom (to my knowledge) have birthdays in May or June. And one of my best friends' is an April born in December.

I think it’s fine to use those names whenever the baby’s born. I’m probably more in the it’s-a-bit-twee-if-they’re-born-then camp than the other way but really, it’s a non issue. Autumn is nice. I also like Winter, January, Tuesday and Sunday!

There is a baby in the same baby group as DD called Autumn, when I think about it she was born in September, but it didn’t occur to me to think until this thread. I think it’s a lovely name.
